hi all -

i currently have 3 male pigs living in harmony together. They are outdoor pigs in the summer and indoors in winter and wet weather.
My friend has 2 female pigs that she no longer wants and has asked me to have them.
I would like to keep them as indoor pigs but out doors in fine weather in a run.
If i keep the female pigs at the other end of the garden to the males with that be ok?
I don't want to breed - i just want to rehome these lovely females. :)

thankyou in advance

That sounds fine providing you take proper care to keep them well apart, i would even go as far as careful handwashing after handling the sows but before handling the boys and even better with cuddle time try handling the sows after the boars or change your clothes so you get minimal sow scent near the boars.

I have a few trio's of boars who are quite successful but even the smell of my jacket when i walked in after cuddling sows at the rescue was enough to send them into a rumbling frenzy.

With care it should be fine so go ahead and take those lovely girls!

They should be OK as long as are kept apart. I understand your worries about not wanting to introduce a new factor that might upset the balance of your trio.

Best of luck and great of you for taking your friend's girl on!

I am looking forward of hearing (and seeing) more of your piggies!

aww thankyou everyone for your replies!
I'm expecting the girlies tomorrow - been out to get them a romaine lettuce, green beans, mini sweetcord - you know the usual treats LOL -
They have never been out on the grass before either and I'm so looking forward to that. Got a spare run and cage so they'll be out tomorrow grazing as soon as - hope its sunny!

sounds like you have got it all sorted :)). Hope they enjoy their time out on the grass.:)) Looks like they have a super new mummy.x>>

Better cover the run with a towel and scatter hidey places across it - the big outside and an edible surface can be very firghtening at first! Best of luck with giving the girl a good home!

hi - the run is attached to a hutch (hubby made it bless him) so they have the hutch to run and hide in - thanks for your advice x

oh i do hope so - I'm just praying the boys don't get jealous

I HAVE GOT THE GIRLS!! xoxo

THEY ARE gorgeous! fAT AND AND HEALTHY - x)x)x)

so far they seem very content. I have set the out door pen up but have decided to let them get used to the noises in our house etc first before introducingthem to another change!
I have taken loads of photos of them - one is a gingery brown colour the other is a black and white. Both are absolutely gorgeous! I have never owned a female pig before. So its all new and exciting for me

updates later and pics! :)):)):))

thanks for that - i am sure they are both over weight but they have not been allowed play time out their cage at all so I'm not at all suprissed. They are allowed to run around my living room at night and yesterday and today i introduced them to the great outdoors -their pen! They were very scared at first prefering to huddle in the corner ofthe cage which is attached to the run. But today i put some fresh curly kale from my allotment in the pen and they could not resist! They have also tried nibbling the grass too - in time i think they will lose weight with more exercise and enjoy their outdoor time .

they are the lovliest pigs you could wish to meet -
