Hello,
Firstly thank you to those who answered my first question a few months ago. (I couldn’t work out how to reply but didn’t want to seem rude and like I wasn’t grateful for the advice)

Onto the question. My guinea pig is around 3 months old and unfortunately seems to be crying when he pees. Theres no blood luckily but he’s been crying for a few days. I made a vet appointment as soon as I noticed he wasn’t well and was scheduled to take him today, but unfortunately we were caught in some traffic for about an hour and the vets had to cancel our appointment. They can’t fit him in until Tuesday (today is Wednesday) So was wondering in the meantime if there was anything we could do to ease some of the pain?
Thanks again, any advice would be appreciated

I’m sorry your boy is unwell. Could you get him booked in with another vet from the list? I don’t know that there’s really anything you can do in the meantime.

Called the only other recommended one within 2 hours drive and apparently their guinea pig specialist doesn’t work there anymore 😔 thankyou anyway though ☺️

You’ll have to try further afield I’m afraid. I don’t think it can wait that long, especially as he’s in pain.

Can you google for other vets in your area? At this age, it is most likely a urine infection because he is a bit young for bladder stones yet. The sooner he can get an antibiotic, the better. A general vet should do.

Please bring your piggies inside if they are outdoors.

Mine who have had UTIs have always been given an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory painkiller called metacam (or loxicom depending on the brand). In our experience UTIs don't clear up on their own and are best dealt with promptly as there is a short delay of a day or so before the antibiotic kicks in. Whichever Ab you get they don't taste great but the metacam is delicious so I dose with the Ab first and then offer the metacam after to take the taste away! Guinea pig UTI is pretty standard fodder for vets - they should weigh him though so they get the doses right for body weight. Good luck and be brave little fella! 💕
