hi , my 3 month old guinea pig has a little bit of dry skin on her 2 back feet ( on the pad bit) its[*]not [/*] painfull/swollen/red but i just wondered if this was normal. if it was painfull to her i woud take her to the vet but she seems fine with , i only realised she had dry feet when i picked her up . do they get dry skin like us ?

I'm housing her on newspaper then sawdust then hay , and thanks :)

Sawdust can hurt piggies feet and cause respitary infections.
Are you able to house them on something softer like vetbed, fleece or even megazorb :)

oh right i didnt know *** would be ok for them , i think ive read to many info websites n they all say different thing , very confusing! thanks for your advice :) do you know any good websites for fleeces ? xx

I used the dog or cat fleece you can from £1 shops
All i do is put a thick later of paper at the bottom of the cage, then 2 towels then the fleece blanket.

sounds cheaper and alot easier to clean to be honest , and better for my piggy :) xx

I can vouch for gorgeous guinea products as had to use them on a couple of guineas recently and they are wonderful.

Also a fleece convert, it's much less messy and so much nicer for your piggies. I got mine from asda, it's smartprice fleece and was £2 for one. Towels underneath and same cleaning routine as millies mummy.

Welcome to the forum, Amber.

Dry skin on the hocks is a relatively common problem. In my experience, the best product to combat such dry skin is Perfect Paws, by Gorgeous Guineas (www.gorgeousguineas.com). It works very effectively.

I agree with the advice given about sawdust etc. The th-t word was starred out as the forum blocks all text speak. :)

i agree sawdust is bad!
I'm also a fleece lover,i find it clean, pretty, soft and overall nice for the piggies just be sure to do a full layer of newspaper and a towel or two then the fleece, goodluck xx

hey thanks everyone for your help , i went out today n bought a fleece n she seems to love it and started popcorning when i put her back in . :) and i agree that it is sooo much cleaner and easier ! xx
