I have two boars, they are brothers and have always lived together with no drama at all. They are around 15 months old now at a guess, maybe slightly more, I got them in Nov 06 and they were pretty much fully grown then.

In the pet shop today getting hay, they had quite a few guinea pigs in. I was chatting to the lady in the shop and saying how tempting it was to get more. She offered to do me a deal on two baby boys and a cage - nothing wrong with the piggies that I can see, but she was obviously wanting to rehome them before Xmas.

One boy was sort of brown and white, one was a colour I can only describe as lilac/grey. They were small, so probably only a month or so old.

I can't really justify getting more piggies, especially as we also have the fish now, and my OH hates animals and is pretty browned off with the ones we have now. But I wondered if these two new boys would be able to live with the ones I have now, so there wouldn't be any new cages?

I know you can bond one older boar with a baby successfully, but what about 2 older boars and two babies? And could they all live in a 4 foot by 2 foot indoor cage?

It can work and there are people here that have had more than 2 bond, however be prepared my 2 bonded boars went crazy when i introduced a baby with them they now all live seperately and i have tried and tried again without success

personally i would leave the 2 bonded ones together and if you decide to take on another 2 house them together seperately

Yeah it could work if you were lucky - really very lucky! I'd be tempted to keep the two pairs myself but guess if the OH isn't keen then you do have to consider him too!

I have had three boars of differing ages living long and happy lives together - good luck O0

TBH I don't think it's a good time to get more pets, with Christmas coming, and us going away for a few days. Plus I do have to consider dh's feelings, after all he was here first ;)

The boys will be fine for a couple of days with the neighbour popping in to feed them, but if I had two new ones and the situation was volatile, I'd want to be here.

Maybe next year eh? 8)

I agree that it's probably best to leave it. There is no guaranty they will get on - in fact most likely that they won't.
Also to have 4 you would have to get a much bigger cage for them all.

I would no way tempt fate and add another boar or two with your bonded pair! think you've made the right descion O0

4ft by 2ft is probably too small for 4 boars to live together happily. From my experience boars need space other wise they are prone to fall outs

Yep TG I totally agree. My two seven month old boars have a 5 x 2 indoor hutch, anything smaller and they would hate it, I've tried! :) I know 4x2 is the reccomendations but if you can give a bigger space for boars then I certainly would. :)

The boys I have are perfectly happy in the 4 by 2 indoor cage, and in the warmer weather they have a 4 foot 2 tier outside hutch.

I'm afraid I'll have to leave the babies for someone else to adopt :'(

I have another 2 in a 4x2 and they are fine, so it goes on personality. I waiting for it to all kick off though.

:)
