Hi can anyone give advise please my femaile gave birth to 5 babies friday but is only feeding 4, i have one little one in a box at moment with a teddy for comfort i have been giving 1-2 ml Lactol every 2hours am i doing right ? have tried it in with other femailes they ignore it completly
any help and advice welcome please
Angela,

Sounds like your doing a great job but I would keep her with mum and siblings and just remove for feeding as you may outcast her by keeping her out. Mum's can struggle with feeding a large amount. You will need to feed the little one through out the night as well but they should start nibbling hay and veggies soon. Grated carrot mine liked. Oh god trying to think what I gave mine it was the green stuff Critical care which worked wonders on mine. Goodluck and keep us informed xx

thanks Chloe have read that thread just after posting and have put mum and little one in washing basket together its cuddling upto her but not feeding yet but when put back in hutch with others its pushed out i dont think its as quick as others

milk for bubs

back in 1999 when we bred which we don't do anymore mum had 5 babies the runt of the litter would get pushed out.our vet recomended every 4 hours to take the runt and one of the others out with mum to make sure the runt got a feed.we did this for 2 weeks everytime we took ligthning(mum)runt and a different piggy and let them feed.good luck and really hoping bubs makes it,maybe hold the mum and put bubs on the teat and squirt some milk into its mouth.or perhaps express some milk and feed bubs that.good luck:)p:)p:)p

babiy not feeding

its not feeding from mumi held mum put teat in its mouth, it just spat it out maybe not hungry at moment, will try again later with one of others as you sugested if not will continue to feed off a spoon as it will drink from spoon might be better than seryinge

i would maybe take the other babies out and give mum and runt time alone to feed, or maybe do what choloe said, put mum and runt and one other together

Thanks for all messages of advise, I tried putting him on mum again this morning he wasnt interested neither was she, he had a feed from spoon at 9am i picked him up for another around 1pm he seemed quiet then he just passed away in my hand quite sad realy but i expect its for the best.

Very sad

8...

I'm so sorry to hear the little one didn't make it. It maybe that something was wrong with its mouth and could not suckle from mum but was OK to spoon-feed. I know it's hard to take at times like this but sometimes things really do happen for the best. Hoping mum and other bubs are all doing well :rose

so sorry to hear about your baby piggy. :( :(

Black Jack might be right, least it happened now and he is not going to suffer anymore.

Sweet dreams baby piggy. x>>x>>

yes its sad but maybe mum and other females knew somthing was wrong with him, thats why nobody would take to him do's anyone agree with this or is it just me

mum and others doing well.

RIP sweet baby piggy.

i totally agree with you, i think animals have a 6th sense when babies aren't going to make it and just won't have anything to do with them.
i am so sorry the poor little mite passed away:0:0:0 at least in his/her short life s/he knew love and hapoiness from a loving piggy mum like you.
i also believe s/he was a special angel sent down to you and when it was time s/he left you whilst you held him/her:(:(:( RIP sweet darling run free, forever young and happy with the angels amongst the clouds. a short life but you touched your mummy's heart, never forgotten.
RIP angel:rose:rose
hoping mum and other babies are doing well. good luck!

I agree 100%. In this case where there was an already larger litter then the mum would need all her resources to feed the healthy ones and if the little unfortunate was already poorly or not total in some way then the mum would know this and not waste precious milk on him. This is not much consolation for Angelah1181 I know but nature can be cruel to be kind.

thanks for knd messages also nice to know i am not mad for thinking animals know somthing is not right.

I am SO sorry to hear that the poor little baby did not make it. :0 But it is great news that the Mum and the other babies are doing well! :)

R.I.P. little piggie. xxxxx :0
