I have my 4 new boys in a nero3, I have another spare.
Should they be kept in pairs only?

a Nero 3 is WAY too small for 4 piggies, its too small for even 2 piggies let alone that many - even if split into pairs you would need 2 new cages. for 4 piggies, minimum you need about 13 sq foot, which is roughly about 2ft by 6ft, but more the better.

I know it's just for them all to settle in for 24 hours (can I handle them from then? =])
I know it's too small, I will be planning to make my own cage and just keep adding bits as they grow.
Can I leave the group as 4? Unneateared?

oic! ok, well i cannot see why not, how old are they? have they always lived together?

people do say that big groups can fight - ive never had 4 boars together, maybe some others can help with that.

Just babies. Had to rescue them from pets at home, my cousin said she wantred beautiful ones to feed to her snake.... she said these were the only ones she wanted, if they weren't available she would rehome her snake - I hate people like this!:(

What?! You saved them from your cousin's snake, or you've bought them so that you can feed them to your cousin's snake? I'm confused!

I agree..... I was shocked. She called me and asked for my 2 females.?/?/?/?/?/:)>>>
I was raging at her, but all I could do was get them...
I really hate people sometimes!:^-

Nonono!
OMG no... I would never.

My cousin knows I love cavvies and asked for my 2 females to feed to her snake (I was in tears and felt extremely sick by that) she then said there was beautiful ones in PAH, she was going to buy them but if they were gone then why bother, she would just rehome the sanke.grrrrgrrrrgrrrr

Just seen your other thread, you've saved the piggies from being muched on by a snake! good job! It's sad that snake-owners do this, surely there must be other foodstuffs that snakes can eat. Well done, you've done a really good thing.

Anyway, piggies are much better pets than snakes - maybe I'm biased!8)

Hehe, thank you... I know they will get more in, but doubt that will happen again:x

I personally don't think that snakes should be pets.
Guinea Pigs have become pets, snakes shouldn't be pets imo.

They just don't come under the same umbrella of 'domestic pets' imo.

I can't imagine watching the telly and cuddling up to a big snake! hehe - each to their own though.

I bet my gang of trained 'attack' ;o) piggies would take down any snake that tried to get it. Or at least they'd try to hump / eat /squeak it to death! lol

Hehehehehe

I mainly think because you can never create natural for the snake, and really I think it's pure cruelty.... I mean what are you keeping them for?

*Each to their own-c

I agree - I can never see the attraction with snakes and reptiles to be honest and hate the thought of them eating live food. :...
Each to their own though but it's something I would never have.

Pets at Home charge £18.50 for a guinea pig, don't they? Or £35 a pair. That's way expensive for snake food! I don't believe anyone would pay that.

I think the topic of snakes and live food has been done to death on here lately rolleyes

Good luck with the pigs though

Sophie

Agree with you Sophie, thats one expensive meal! You can get a half chicken dinner down at Brewsters for £5.99 for us simple humans! rolleyes

Snakes don't need to eat often, monthly or so. She'd probably buy a male and female and keep breeding them and day 1 of the babies life use them as food. It sickens me.

Just a polite reminder to please keep the discussions away from guinea pigs as feed for reptiles, I think we've had enough of these threads recently rolleyes.

Well done you for saving the piggies-can you warn your local pets at home that there are people buying them for this purpose?

mmm what kind of a pet can you get that eats snakes?

Erm, I think that that would be just as bad as a snake eating another animal! I still wouldn't like to see a snake being used as food but thats just the way I am I'm afraid. I think that this is one of those discussions that needs to be left alone again. Anyway, well done for rescuing the piggies kt1 pics when they're settled pleased xx>>>

aside from whether they're going to be snake food or not, a group of four boys in my opinion is asking for trouble, as they get older they will fight, you should figure out their personalities and try and see which pigs get on best, then split them into pairs. I find more than two boars together triggers problems! try and put a submissive boy with a more confident boy.
Also, if they smell your females they will fight, so they must not be anywhere near them.
good luck :)

I think you will be ok with the boys together whilst they are babies.
As they get past 6-7 weeks they will begin to get on each others nerves especially if you haven't got a really big cage for them.

Splitting into pairs is a good idea and PLEASE keep them away from your sows, as they will smell them and this will cause problems.

I'm not commenting on snake food! But i agree with starla i really think you'd be best splitting them into two pairs to have the best chance of them getting on. Leaving them as a four will very likely end in a fight, possibly with one or more getting hurt and could lead to none of them getting on at all and you don't want four separate cages, good luck with them x

That's what I thought Graham. :)

Getting back to 'keeping away from sows' you know I have no problems at all. I did do when I had 2 dominant boars together but now they are in submissive/dominant pairings they are fine.

Could that be the key? If you have 1 sub and 1 dom pigs put together it works regardless of if girls are near?

(The mods said to keep the subject of snakes,so please do:)p:rose)
Thank you guys, I will keep the girls and boys separate just incase. The boys really love eachother though, and some people are saying no problem so I think I will leave them together.
