Hi!

I rescued a long-haired 4 year old boar who was being kept with a rabbit.

I already have two 13 week old bonded boars...do you think it would be worth trying to bond them all?

I would really appreciate advice on this.

If this isn't possible then I will find him a rescue baby boar to try.

Thank you :)

They are usually nice and mellow by the time they are 4 and I know there are people who successfully keep boars as trio's so I see no harm in trying

That put a big smile on my face! He is a very mellow and laid back boy. He seems desperate for a friend of his own kind bless him :(

It may work,my sister has a group of 5 boars of various ages ranging from 2 yrs old to 5 yrs old and they have all been introduced one at a time.
You need to be aware that it may not work though and your bonded pair could fall out

That does concern me. My bonded pair are brothers and I would hate for them to fall out :(

What is the best way to do it? Should I let them see/smell each other through bars first? Obviously, it would be done on neutral territory.

my sister puts the new Boar in a cage beside the other boars in a different cage and room room to what they normaly live in.
She gives them a few weeks living side by side and then starts putting a bit of the soiled bedding from the new boars cage into the groups cage.
when she comes to intro them she dusts them all with baby talc to make them all smell the same (She got this idea as thats how the chinchillas are introduced)and then lets them out into the room for a run around and keeps an eye on them.
She never leaves them together untill she is certain that they are getting along

That's a great idea! Thank you! :)

You could give it a try. I'm one of those who worry about upsetting the applecart though. If you introduce another boar would fighting break about between your original pair and end up with thee seperate boars?

I have this dilemma. I have Pudsey who is a rumble bum and Eccles who is so laid back and doesn't care. I'm getting Jasper on Thursday and I thought perhaps I could introduce Jasper to the pair but I'm not sure on his personality as yet.

As I say its worth a try but any chance of fighting then I would remove ASAP. Good luck! :)

Thank you! It's so hard to know what's best for all of them :(

His claws were in a bad way when we got him :(

We are trying to think of a name for him :)
