Junior Guinea Pig
today it's 5 years since my first guinea pig I ever got passed away. His named was Smudge. I know most of the posts on this section of the forum is dedicated to guineas that have recently died but I thought it would be nice to do a little memorial for him and for me to tell everyone a bit about him.
As I said Smudge was my first guinea pig I ever owned, I had pestered my parents for about a year to get me a guinea pig and they got me and my brother one each for my birthday. We had planned on getting two girls and keeping them in the same cage together but when we got to the pet shop there was only one girl and a load of boys and my parents refused to get two boys as he was convinced that they would not get along and would fight (I now know this isn't true) so we got a boy for me (Smudge) and a girl for my brother (Chloe) I was so happy to get Smudge. He was 6 months old when we got him as the pet shop had rescued him and was originally named Ginster. Everything was fine with Smudge until I realised that he was losing weight very quickly so we took him to the vets and his teeth and over grown so much that he couldn't eat (even though he constantly had hay) he had an operation to fix his teeth but the vet said that he was very weak and it was unlikely he would survive the operation but I couldn't not try. He recovered and was well. I noticed he was losing weight again and we took him back to the vets and nothing was wrong, his teeth were fine it turned out he was lonely so we got him a friend neutered and a friend called Lily. They lived happily together. One day o came home and smudge had died. My parents presumed it must have been his teeth again. He was such a lovely guinea pig, I still miss him very much. Lily died a few years after Smudge so at least their back together again
