Pebbles
New Born Pup
Hi. I'm after some advice please. My beloved elderly girl died finally a couple of weeks ago. Her (5yr old) female companion is very needy, so not wanting to leave her alone too long, I have adopted a neutered boar 5 1/2 years old from a local rescue centre. He's a bit battered (got one dodgy eye), and has quite large bald patches on each haunch. The lady at the centre assured me that this was nothing to worry about, and he was treated with ivermectin before he came to me.
I'm pleased to say that bonding has gone well - Pebbles adores him and they snuggle very happily.
However, there's a couple of issues that I'm not entirely sure about :
1) ever since he arrived, his poo is very soft/ unformed. he produces smelly globs that need wiping from his bottom. I'm aware that this could be due to change in diet (he is probably having more fresh food than he's used to, although neither of them are big eaters), but any advice on this?
2) his bald patches continue to worry me.
Now I've noticed that little Pebbles seems to have become a bit more lethargic, so i'm worried that he might have some sort of infection that she has picked up. Nothing dramatic, but she just seems a little unsteady today.
Also they groom each other - I am aware that this can be normal behaviour, but Pebbles never did this before, and I mention it just in case it points towards a skin/infection problem.
I'm in the process of bathing them both and giving the cage a deep clean, just in case. Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.
