6 Weeks?

because there is still sperm present before then. Wiebke has a piggie from a 5 and a half week post op boar

If it's post neutering I believe it's to ensure there aren't any residual sperm left behind :) Of course I may be entirely wrong.

Hi Jess, it's as @Falken says, 6 weeks until a boar is completely safe. Just ask @Wiebke who ended up with a surprise package from a boar which was 5 weeks post neutering..

Lisa & Ali.. x

Because it takes some time to clear any residual sperm from the tubes. About half the boars are OK after 2 weeks, about 90% are safe after 4 weeks, but you are only 100% safe after 6 weeks. It is a bit counterproductive to pay a lot of money for an operation just to throw it away by playing the statistics!

I have a surprise baby courtesy of a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post op rescue boar, just to prove this particular point! That late is rare, but I have since heard of other cases. I have yet to hear of a pregnancy from an over 6 weeks post neutering op boar despite a growing number of good standard rescues practicing the 6 weeks limit for their adoption policy. My Tegan Syndod (Welsh for "beautiful"+"surprise") is coming up to three years old.
