I had my adopted guinea pig out for cuddles, and just as I was about to put him back into his cage, he leapt out of my hands and whacked himself against the edge of his cage :'( it was quite a big bang, and I'm a bit worried now. He was looking and acting fine, but I'm close to tears now :( how can I check if there's something wrong?
He's never done this before :\ I hope he's not really hurt :( x

check him over and see if it hurts when you touch his spine/legs. Also, it's possible for them to break teeth in accidents, but they grow back!

ive had pigs break teeth just make sure they can still eat their food if not you may have to make a pellet mush and syringe/spoon feed :)

Keep a close eye on your pigs behaviour - if they develop any lameness then a vet trip is wise. Check the teeth if you can - often pigs will snap them in falls, it can be above the gum line so may take a day or two to show and become loose. If they have trouble eating then post and more appropriate advice can be given.

Guinea pigs will often jump or struggle if they see their cage in front of them, especially if they are quite new and would prefer the security of the cage to being in your arms. The best way to avoid accidents is to approach the cage with the pig facing you, and when placing them into the cage to put them in bottom first - this way they are in the cage before they realise it is there.

Thanks you guys :)
I just saw him have a little nibble at his hay, so hopefully his teeth are okay. He's running about a little bit too so hopefully his legs are okay too.
It was just such a shock, but thank you so much for the advice x

I have a couple that try the suicidal leap as I call it:)

As long as they are moving okay, eating okay etc they should be fine:)

Guinea pigs are quite strong and resisilant actually although they are small so i'm sure they will be okay just keep an eye out

Yes, just keep an eye out and make sure your piggy is acting normal. Some of my piggies have done that 'suicidal leap' too, so understand how you feel. Other than a few with broken teeth, everything turned out fine with mine :)
