Hi, I got a baby on Thursday (just 6 weeks) started off fine, eating etc but last night I got home and he was covered in poop, he didn't eat much breakfast yesterday. I cleaned him up, cleaned his cage, didn't give him any veggies but he was eating hay, dried food and drinking ok last night so I thought he had just had too much veggies. This morning he has the splats (! Sorry) He hasn't had any veggies still but it seems to be worse, his stomach isn't swollen and he is still eating hay and seed, he is so tiny I don't want to give him any immodium or dioralyte as he is so young. The other problem I have is that my car has gone wrong so we can't get to the vets until at least Friday when it is fixed, and I work quite a way from home. Would a probiotic help ? I have some left from another piggy or could it be viral / parasitic as he is normal in every other way? He definately isnt hunched up or quiet.

Do you think he could be lonely? Does loneliness cause upset tums?

I would appreciate some advice! Thanks

Probiotic could help and I would give it a go. However my big concern is that this is a very young piggy and sadly they can go downhill very quickly. Is there really no way you can get to a vets until the end of the week? Could a friend not take you?

For now though I would try the probiotic and make sure he has plenty of hay to eat. The fact he is eating and drinking is a good sign but keep a close eye on him in case he starts to deteriorate.

Being lonely shouldn't give him an upset tum although it would be a good idea to think about getting him a friend when he is well again. :)

I really hope he is better soon!

Hope he will get better soon, i agree with furryfriends, cant you get a friend to take you to the vet as it sounds like it should be checked out

I have a vet appt for tomorrow evening provided my car is repaired by then. Friends? No one I know would take me and my piggy to the vet, they all think I'm mad at 43 to keep them anyway - My piggies are my friends! I have a friend all planned for him at the weekend but am sceptical now as he is poorly. I have the added pressure of having to go to the hopsital with my Mum tomorrow to get the results of some tests she has had for serious stomach problems too! Perhaps I could ask the consultant about my piggie! (bad taste!) Anyway hopefully if my car goes in first thing it will be done and we can get to the vets tomorrow.
Thanks

you arent mad to keep them at 43, they are mad for saying that!

Animals arent something you grow out of, like toys

Well I am 48 and I have 22 piggies and my bunny! They are part of my family and I love them all so much. Yes, friends think I am mad too but they don't know what they are missing! :D :D :D

Ok. Spoken to mechanic explained need car tomorrow because of piggy, mum etc and he gonna do it this afternoon, soooo I have made an appointment at 9.00am tommorrow with vet - thats sort of better eh?! Can't get home and back to vet in time tonight unfortunately - not humanly possible - getting time off here is a joke - off tommorrow for my mum and hopefully to put little Rolly the dalmation back on track! I will let you all know how he is on Friday as I'll be off line tomorrow (only perk of the job!).

Thanks for your kind words - Sue

thats brilliant, and nice of the mechanic to do it this afternoon :)

Hi Sue, I am in Surbiton and dont have a car of my own at the moment but can get hold of my friends spare car whenever I need it in an emergency, so if anything like this happens again let me know! Hope your little one will be ok and your mum too O0
PM me if you like and we can swap phone numbers and any emergencies that arise, we can get hold of eachother.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your kindness and concern everyone- greatly appreciated!

Baby Rolly saw the vet yesterday and he said that he was a good body condition, fiesty and that he was a little stumped becuase Rolly is so lively! He went out the room and came back with a fistful of dandelions, grass & chickweed! Rolly devoured them all there and then! He prescribed a probiotic and told me to give him some Yakult too! Got home gave him some Yakult with the probiotic in and he lapped it up like a kitten! Went to the hopsital with mum - her coealic diet isn't working anymore (after 30years) so her body isn't absorbing any vitamins or anything so she has to have more tests and maybe drugs to support her system to accept coealic diet again!
Got home and yeah! normal poops, he was fine all evening had some more Yakult (tiny drop in atiny dish)and grass lapping it up again so went all went to bed! This morning he was covered in poop again! I think maybe the yakult is too rich?! Anyway back to the vets tomorrow, but he is still lively! And I am still concerned..............Anyway this morning I have given him a tiny piece of cucumber with the bio lapis sprinkled on it and no Yakult, I suppose time will tell.........

Thanks again everyone for your concern x Fiona have sent you a pm

thats good O0 hope everything goes well at the vets

Thanks! I'm getting anxious to get home now to see what I will find... finish at 5.30..
