Oscar has had teeth problems for a while, but after a trip to the vets today for a teeth file we found out that beecause his teeth aren't actually that bad, compared to before and he doesn't have much of an appetite, there must be an underlying problem, maybe kidney failure or something. he probably has about 6 months left. i just have to make the most of him and try to stop crying, at least he's happy for now.

awww, I am so sorry. Is the vet going to be treating him or anything?
I t is very distressing when something is wrong and you know you are going to loose them. I know just how you feel. have a right good cry and then take it a day at a time and make every moment with him count. As long as you know he is not suffering and you do your best for him then thats good!

Really sorry to hear that. How old is Oscar? Obviously I hope you have him for a long time but make the most of every single day. That way you won't live in regret about not doing something with him.

Thank-you everyone, yes we have a vet who is extremely amazing with guinea pigs and he is being treated on some painkiller to help the pain to go away for now and yes, i will make the most of it and spoil him rotton for as long as he is with us, he really does mean so much to me and I'm going to miss him so much, he really has touched our families lives. i have had a good cry, its good to get the emotion out, i'm crying as i write this, cant help it as I'm going to miss him so much. his five cagemates will also miss him alot, but at least they have eachother i guess. we will just make him comfortable for the time being, thanks

thank you so much people- , it really means alot how comforting you guys are being and i don't think he will pull through, so i will treat every day as his last and just make the most for the fact he's still alive right now. I will miss him so much, i guess this account name gives you a clue that he's my favorite of the group, i know we all have favorites deep down:x

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear such sad news. Will he be in pain for his remaining months? Poor baby. :(
 
Thank-you, and oscarwont be in pain, but if he is, we are giving him a guinea pig pain medi prescribed by our vet, its called metacam and he has 0.1 of a ml twice a day, yes i have so many photos, cuddling him 3 times a day or more, just gotta make the most of him. hate the feeling when you have no clue how long he is going to be around. I'm going to miss my boy so much. he has been through so much in the past and every time he has gotten over it, coming out stronger, but this time this is it. :0:0:0:0:0:0:0

I just cannot imagine the awful pain you are going through. I am just so sorry and wish it could be reversed somehow. As long as he is not in pain you may be with him longer then they say.

thank-you so much, if it wasnt for you guys i would be in more tears. yes i really hope he can hang on maybe for his fourth birthday? it's his third birthday the fourteenth this month. Yes it is so painful knowing that your favorite person( well i know guinea pigs arent people according to alot of people but to me hes my animal best friend) isnt going to be able to hang on, and knowing i dont have much time left makes me so sad. i love him. so so so so so so much.8...8...8...8...8...8...8...8...
 
Keep positive and be cheerful around him so he has his remaining days full of happiness and love. You are coping so well and much better then I could.

thank you again, and yes i am making sure he is getting so much love. he is getting lots and lots of hugs, veggies, grass, though due to not being very well he's not that interested inthe food but certainly likes the cudddles! i'm sure you culd deal it better than i am; I'm scared off breaking my laptop due to my tears:) but i guess all i can do is make his last six or so months of life the best a piggie could ever wish for and just make the most of the fact he's still alive right now and i love him:))

I still have my first piggies so I have never had to go through this. I can see signs my Amelia Jane is ageing and it makes me so upset. Yesterday I thought she had died but she was only asleep. I love her to bits. She and her sister Peronel were my first guinea pigs and it was always just us three. I used to be so lonely living alone and have them with me on the sofa each evening for company.

awh, yes we have been pretty lucky i guess with ours. we had three to start with, but one died:( but then we got my osc, a year and a half ago roughly, then we got pixie and amber, sisters, by the way all of ours are from rescuesxx>>> then we moved house, they moved inside with us, and we got another one that was being advertised on ebay, when thats against the rules, and we saved her, we were meant to be fostering a couple of boys and ended up keeping them, they are all, apart from oscar, happy and healthy and apart from my baby theo we have had no fatalities. we are lucky on that side, though oscar means the whole world to me, I'm hugging him right now! ahah sounds stupid coming from a 13 year old girl, but i really do love oscar.8...8...
 
It does not sound stupid at all. I would be the same. I had no idea you were so young. It is so touching how much you care and love Oscar when many people your age are more interested in themselves. It sounds like you have a lovely and happy herd there. :)

haha thankyou:) yes, oscar really is the whole world to me. he says hello, hes in my arms right now8) yes, alot of my friends have more intrests in things like music and other things but everyone knows me as the guinea pig girlierolleyes but I'm loved for it, not teased so I'm lucky:)) how old are yours? have they ever been ill? oscar could be made a book on how many things he's had wrong with him in the past{:|
 
Amelia Jane was unwell. She had crystals in her bladder and they had to be removed. It was a really scary and awful time. Thank goodness she recovered. I rescued Amina last month and she has weak nails and bald patches due to her poor diet. She did not have vegetables everyday. It will take her a while to get well. My bunny Faisel has been very ill and had many operations so I do know how scary it all is.

aawh@) well oscar has had a bad foot, he had a splint put on by a bad vet and ended up chewing off two of his toes, he has had bloat in his belly before, an infection in his respiritry system and now this, he really has been through it all bless him. what a life for a guinea pig:)) we love him through everything.
some piggies have it in for them dont they?:x
 
Oh poor little thing. Some are just very unlucky. Thank goodness he has you to care for him. It amazes me some people do not even take their animals to the vets when they need care.

yeah, the vet said that if it wasn't for us taking him to the vets he would be dead by now. shows the difference from caring owners like you and I to the non-caring ones that dumps a guinea pig at the bottom of their garden in a hutch and don't hug it or love it.
