my piggie chesney is a single pig at the minute. he has been neutered as he gets bullied by boars so needs a sow as a friend.

he is 2 years old and someone said the age of the sow doesn't matter but does this mean it could be a baby sow aswell? if so, what age?

if i got a baby for his friend then would she change as she grew up personality wise, and could this change their relationship, or would they be ok?

thanks :)

If you get a baby, chances are you will end up with a single sow when your boar passes away, so you will then need to go through the process all over again, morbid as that sounds.
Personally, I would have a look in your local rescues and try and get a pair of girlies around the same age as the piggie you already have.

ok, thanks. is it as easy to bond an already bonded pair of sows to a boar as it is to bond just one sow to a boar?

do you think it would be better to get two sows for him? because if i have two and one passes, i will have to bond another one, but if i had three and one passed then wouldn't i still have to bond another in to make three again so when the next one passes there isn't one left again?

My Murphy neutrered boar lived with Romey she was a baby when she came to live with him. They took to each other wonderfully, sadly when she was taken he then went to live with my trio of bonded sows who took to him fabulous think they were all about 20 months when he went to live with them. Honey B is the boss of them all and she tends to be with him the most but they all get on fabulous.

Honey rounds them all up for feed time and they all sit together munching happily.

Let us know what you decide but sows and neutered boar gets the thumbs up from usxx>>>

i do worry about a piggie being left alone when one passes. :(

sorry for all the questions but what is the best thing to do when bonding them? is it best to take chesney to the rescue and introduce them there and then bring them all back and put them in their cage which would have been cleaned and neutralised?

i was going to do this but then i read about a quarantine period, but if they've been introduced then will they still need this?

also, will it be obvious if they're going to bond easily from when they first meet?

i'm new to this so any advice would be great. :)

can i just say aswell that ches just wheeked really loud! he normally chatters to himself but hardly wheeks so i'm well happy! he popcorns lots though! :)

You could get 2 baby sows and when the time comes the girls will still have eachother.
I wouldnt really worry about what if you loose one and have to bond another one. as a trio you could have your boar and the 2 girls together for up to 5 yrs
good luck with what ever you decide

do the baby sows have to be already bonded? what about being from the same litter, does that matter? also, what age is ok to leave mum, around 6 weeks? thanks.

ok, i might just get one, i can always add another when we have more room.

the cage we have is a trixie 150.

do people on here rehome litters through the rescue pages?

i've got in touch with two local rescues so i will wait and see what they say. thanks. :)
