Pet shops overcrowding is one of my pet hates!
seriously, I had a look in one as I had to buy my Quaker parrot some of this fruit stuff she loves and saw the most horrific thing.
The pet shop had put the new lot of baby bunnies and guinea pigs into what looks like this square fish tank. They had about 30 bunnies, and about 20 odd guinea pigs all squished together.
Well The pigs were of course fighting as they didn't even bother to work out the sexes and the rabbits were starving and skinny as there wasn't enough food for them all. Just this one plastic dish which held some dry grain in there for them.
I spoke to the manager, I said Why haven't you at least got the rabbits and pigs away from each other in a hutch type scenario so there is at least more space for them and they can be with their own species? I also asked if they new how to sex the rabbits and guinea pigs. I told them you'll be selling pregnant animals to unsuspecting customers and will have a lot of unhappy or even sick animals the way they were going.
I said in my opinion this was animal cruelty, I saw one bunny who had been attacked and its eye was permanently closed, Ash thought it was Mixo at first but I am pretty sure it wasn't, it just looked like a scratch across the eye but still that is bad in itself.
I put in a formal complaint to the council for that pet shop, I was not a happy chappy. And I went by this week and their windows are boarded up and the doors are locked. I'm glad I did something about it now.
The council have said they'll try to rehome as many of the animals as they can as even some of the cats and puppies they had were neglected, there was fleas and some had mange.
I'm just glad I was able to do something about it for the poor animals.
