I've read on another forum of a lady who is losing a number of her pigs as a result of her using Nedz Bedz as it contains Eucalyptus Oil which is toxic. Fine for horses but not for guineapigs. She's had a post mortem which said all the signs pointed to Tannin poisoning which is in Eucalyptus. Please check you're not using this bedding or using any other bedding that's intended for horses which contains Eucalyptus.

I stick to natural meadow hay from a farmer who knows it for pigs and is knowledgable with all sorts of animals so I know its safe

Usually to repel flies - but more commanly citronella is used like in Hemcore (which I found too rough for pigs but ok for rabbits).

i never any kind of litter that has leaves, bark, whatever
i only use carefresh (recycled paper) and timothy hay. if i used anything else Dallas would have a fit and chop my finger off!

Here's what I think as far as bedding goes (which is my opinion, not a fact)
Carefresh- the absolute best if you can afford it (which I can't because I have so many ::))
Aspen- 2nd best, I use this because it is cheaper, but a little bit smellier and messier than carefresh.
Pine and Cedar- should never be used. they are both bad for a guinea pig's respiratory system and can cause problems that can be fatal.
