Just wanted to check in and see what some more experienced pig owners thought.

Bingley had his op (neutering) yesterday and it went well. The only thing they mentioned to me was that he hadn't eaten much during the day.

We got him home and made him comfy. We think he ate a bit of apple and a bit of hay but not much at all for him. So I decided to syringe feed a bit - the critical care I ordered had't arrived so I mushed up some pellets and also gave him a liitle bit of pea puree. He seemed to enjoy that.

Overnight, we think he ate some hay but not much else.

When I got home just now, I checked again and not much food had gone. I checked his cage and he has definitely had a wee and there was one fresh poo - not much really. The critical care has now arrived so I have given him a bit of that.

His wounds look fine and clean but he does smell a bit so I am not sure he has been grooming himself. I weighed him and his weight is steady. He is moving around and quite bright eyed.

We are due to back to the vet for a check up tomorrow.

Is this normal for a post op piggy and do I need to do anything more ?

the appetite can depress after a operation.he maybe in pain ? i syringed fed my piggie for 48 hours until i observed normal output of poo !i fed 60mls a day of critical care for 2 days.he is now two weeks post neuter.poor lad is on his own as he had a fight with 6 seperate boars,so he needs some wives !i hope he brightens up when he has company !good luck with your piggie.you must wait 6 weeks, before placing him with any sows !:)

This is not uncommon as the painkillers wear off and the body is still somewhat churned up/hung over from the GA drugs and the physical pain.

This is the time where you really need to step in with full-on syringe feed asap and keep going until your boy is able to keep his weight under his own steam again. The poo output reflects the operation day. Please use the scales to check on the food input and do not go by guesses.
