As some of you are aware on Wednesday we got another guinea ,cousin Amelia (yes that's her name lol) she is at least five and has never had veg and always lived on muesli so I was wondering
1) The muesli she came with looks old and stale to me,I have no idea what make it is as it just came in a carrier bag would it be OK to get her some wag museli and either mix it in with hers or just give her the fresher wag?
2) In the morning I am giving her a snip of fresh grass and at tea time a very small amount of Romaini lettuce and a tiny bit of pepper does this sound to much or to little?
Cousin Amelia loves these but my big worry is she has not been getting her vit c intake for years and I don't want to upset her tummy.I give her plenty of fresh hay and she is having a small amount am not sure she knows what it is:(

I would give poor Cousin Amelia the fresher Wagg and mix in some decent pellets.

The amount of veg sounds about right, up it slowly and only introduce one veg at a time.

In view of the circumstances, I would recommend getting vitamin C tablets, either Oxbow vitamin C for guinea pigs (follow instructions; they are widely available online) or human ones from the supermarket. Give one 1/8 to 1/4 of a human one either by placing it in the mouth or dissolving it in 1ml of water and syringing it.

I am sure that you are having her checked over by a vet anyway to see whether she has got any issues due to her diet and care. It is great that you are giving her a loving home!

yes we will have her checked :D i have been and got her some vit c tablets if i put a bit of one in her mouth might she not choke?

She shouldn't if you are careful. If you struggle, I would rather syringe 1ml in two portions to prevent things from going down the wrong way.

I'm glad that she has got a forever home with you. If she's used to muesli then at her age she may not change to pellets but as Wiebke said mix pellets in with some fresh Wagg which most piggies will eat willingly, she may just take a liking to the pellets. Fresh grass & red pepper are good sources of vitamin c & most piggies will love them. Big Red Peppers are on offer at Lidl this weekend @ just 34p each.

Thank you I did wonder myself if she will ever like pellets but I will mix some in with the wag and see how she goes.she seems to know what she does and does not like if I stroke her head she flings her head up to get my hand away but if I stroke her eyes gently she relaxes and loves it:D

Mine mostly like been tickled in the back of neck or side of their neck behind the ears.

The vit c went down like a brick duck:lol!: i thought she was doing well with it at first, i only put a small amount in she took one look at me and spat it out all
Over my arm (didnt think they could even spit! ) Will keep on with it as even a small amount will be better then nothing.:D

Try syringing... She won't like it, but it will go in. The oxbow tablets are more acceptable in taste than the human ones. You may want to talk about the vitamin issue with your vet. I would assume that you can reduce the amount somewhat once she is eating veg.

Please brace yourself that she will likely have very firm ideas about what veg she'll eat, too! Older piggies usually know exactly what they like and what they don't like and will tell you straight away!

Thank you I will . yes even though we have only had cousin Amelia since Wednesday she seems to have a strong ideas about likes and dislikes and a very whitering glare :D
