Ok. The feelings towards this particular shop are not subtle but I really need some advice or even help. I'm not sure.

I was in there yesterday and my brother told me to look out for three piggies he saw a few weeks ago. When he said three I assumed ladypigs. But then before me we have Ozzy, Mopsy and Bingo-Bongo. A boar trio. They are all mainly black with white and ginger patches or crests and they are adorable. But they are in a tiny enclosure. I keep hearing that boar trios don't work but these three were snuggled up together quite happily. I watched them for a long time and asked a few questions. Apparently they were handed in when the owner couldn't care for them anymore, they are bonded well and two year old. Also they think they are brothers.

I am petrified they will go to a home that doesn't know anything about boars and the space they will need based on the space they are currently in. Not sure if I'm allowed to say which branch it is but I don't know what to do.

I am really hassling my Dad and begging for these three but I don't hold much hope. Anyone looking to take on a boar trio?! They are so sweet. What can I do? They assistant seemed very don't - care - ish. "Oh we sell boys in threes so it's fine" Gaaaaah. It makes me mad.

Any ideas what I can do? Help!

Amy

Pets at home routinely sell three boars together so there is nothing you can do about that, you can complain about the enclosure size although I doubt you'd get anywhere with it, none of their enclosures meet RSPCA guidelines however I don't think there is anything in law that states you can't keep pigs in smaller housing. If there were they wouldn't sell the cages they do. Unfortunately they'll probably go to a home where the people know nothing other than what pets at home have told them, and if they fall out the dominant pig will be sent back and labelled as a 'bully'. That's how I got two of my boys, no one wanted them as they were put off by being made to think they were evil. The store adviser even told me that Wigner was the most evil pig she had ever come across, in fact he's the most beautiful boy who gives the best piggie kisses!

Complaining gets you nowhere in some of the branches, my local ones ok the staff there try and do the best they can i will say that for them but on a whole i hate the place. I complained about degus fighting to be told i knew nothing, apart from the fact i have kept them for 16 years and run a website and rescue.

ARGH! P@H often feel my wrath. We do pop in there sometimes, and I normally end up having a moan to an assistant.

Amy, I don't know if you have any local friends who are piggy savvy? It may be worth mentioning on your Facebook that there are a trio of boars for "sale" in P@H and that you want them to go to a good home - even if that home isn't experienced, if it's a friend you could help out with teaching them how to deal with boys.

I would love to have them, but sadly we do not have enough space.

I have complained many times in P@H though - we visited the other day and in front of us was this poor black piggy (I wasn't sure of the gender, they don't display sexes in their "price" tags) who clearly had an infection in his eye. He was very quiet and his eye was virtually closed. When my OH was busy looking for something, I marched up to the assistant and asked whether she knew the piggy was sick and whether he was getting treatment. I then said I felt it was wrong to be selling a guinea pig when it was clearly sick, when the likelihood would be that the family get the piggy home, do not realise the extent of the illness and either send it back or put it to sleep. We very nearly took him because I couldn't bear to think about him being disposable and OH has said if he is still there on Wednesday (his next day off) we may very well go up there and get him to give him the treatment he needs. The shop assistant didn't give two hoots - she just said he was getting treatment and that they would advise the person who buys him that he is having medication - I very much doubt she will. I also constantly notice that the bowls have no or little pellets in and that they cram the piggies and bunnies in tiny spaces - not to mention the fact 5+ boars all together in one small cage - not a good idea.
