is a carrot a day (to share between 2 piggies) ok or should it only be an ocassional treat?:{

My two have carrots most days (I get the little chanteray (?) carrots as they're sweeter). I give them a mix of herbs and veggies every day to try and vary the source of their vitamins but I don't think there's anything wrong with them having a carrot every day.

A pinky finger of carrot per day is ok for pigs. I give mine half an inch per day. :)

mine get a big carrot split into 3 and each get a piece each... Or half a big carrot cut up small... Depends on what else they have to eat that day...

Pepsi gets two carrots most days, along with a mixture of other fruits and veggies.

Having had a pig and rabbits before they have always had one carrot a day ( between them all) and not one of them has been/is fat nor have they ever had any problems with their diet or teeth...

Every one is a healthy weight...

Everything in moderation but if it aint broke dont fix it...;)
ANd balance it out with dark, healthy greens (which my piggies are not keen on and will carry on looking at me like I'm stupid if i just give them spring greens and nothing else... they still get them though and will eat them eventually... piggy tummies get the better of them!)

My piggies had a carrot and some mini sweetcorns today... Whoops.. :))

I agree with that Jane. Everything in moderation is the key. Mine don't like sweetcorn or parnsips or courgettes but everything else they love! :)

^^ I've just tried mine with celeriac and they absolutely love it! Not massive on parsnips though like yours either... Great news as celeriac is easily grown in the garden and also cheap in the shops! and i love celeriac mash so we all win...:)):))

I must try Celeric. I am going to grow my own veg and herbs. Our garden is big enough! I've turned into a right farmer! :D

Mine get a little bit of carrot daily and seem to enjoy having something with that added crunch since the leaves and the like dissappear in seconds. As for corn mine rarely get the actual cob Itself we grow several troughs of corn and they relish the shoots.

Haven't tried celeriac either but my lot adore fennel

Scruffy eats carrot every other day, and Max has it too but he loves to break it into little pieces and make the cage a mess, - scruff used to do that but i think its a young age thing!

i cant see giving them carrot daily is a problem, as long as not a massive carrot each day to themselves!

I give mine carrots on a regular basis. Carrots always keep well in the fridge (but I get them out of the fridge in the morning for the teatime feed so that they are room temperature). Greens don't keep so well, so I always have a carrot or two available, once or twice a week, as a back-up.

Erm... where did you get this information?

Carrots are fine fed daily a small amount daily. Sweetcorn as an occasional treat - the husks and silk are actually of more nutritional value than the rest.
i'm sure i read it on this forum?

Carrots are a very sugary vegetable which can lead to tooth problems if fed in excess. They are also high in vitamin A which can lead to liver problems if fed in excess. I often feed my pigs carrots but they only get a very small chunk a day. I prefer to stick to leafy greens, herbs and other veg ;)

I think I am missing the point of this thread ... is carrot meant to be bad for them then?

Thanks
