When I cleaned the pen yesterday, I used a different brand of paper bedding. I have used this brand before, but for the past 3 weeks have using a different brand. Today, Jimmy was acting strange. He was very jumpy , but what made me think of the bedding is that he didn't want to return to the pen from the playpen extension. In fact he hung out as far away as possible. Usually he will run between both for a drink of water or a pee or poop. Today he was doing both in the playpen and I had to move the water in there to make sure he had easy access. There are towels on the bottom of the playpen.
I lured him back in the pen for the night with a bit of lettuce but he was reluctant to cross the line between playpen and actual pen.
He is in there now munching a big pile of hay and I am keeping my eye on him.

Could it be the change in bedding that caused this odd behaviour?

It could be something you haven’t heard or that looks normal to you. Guinea pigs have a much better sense of hearing than us. As long as he’s still munching on hay, you may possibly put it down to something that spooked him.

Thank you. He is still munching and I will top up the hay again. Hopefully it was just a ghost:D
