I can now add to my cv that not only can I sheer sheep, but I can shave guinea pigs too :))

Tyrian and lupin require regular trimming to keep their bits clear from mucky nottys noras and with my right hand not being what it used to be and the pair of them wrigglers I invested in pet trimmers. I wouldnt recommend everyone go round shaving their pigs and I have done sheering for years, just the boys are some what smaller, I chose a semi long cut so there is still hair, just not so much of it.

With each in a tunnel while I trimmed the back skirts, they were little angels, a combination of trimming with scissors and shaving around the plums and bums - not too close to the plums mind, and they are much neater and lighter for it.

So glad I decided to go for the trimmers, the boys can have a simple shave each month now to keep the plums aired and tidy with a trim of the top skirt over so they dont look such a mess or get into a mess. The boys were less than impressed and have not stopped telling me how upset they are for being manhandled and shaved :)) but they are also finding it much nicer to clean themselves and navigate the pen.

Oooo I've actually been thinking of shaving tabby, her hair gets her down sometimes, where did you get the shavers from? And is it just like shaving boys hair? (lol i do my brother hair for him).

I shave the OH's head and its different, his is a complete shave so I can go close to the head and follow the head round but with animals its quite different. I followed the same techniques as I have done for sheep, not pulling the hair away from the body as you will bring skin and the chances of cutting it far greater, taking off less rather than more and being able to go back and back till I have the desired length. At the end of the day I dont need to see skin, I just wanted to lessen the amount of hair, I did go upwards during the longest bits to just trim the excess off, any lumps I used the scissors to cut and again I start off away from the skin, guiding with my fingers until I am sure the skin is not near the knot and I am not pulling the hair.

I was impressed with how quiet they ran, was worried they would be noisy and scare the boys, but they ran quietly and no vibration so not noticable to the boys till I got closer to their legs, and that was only because I would then stick my finger infront of their leg so I couldnt accidently catch anything while I couldnt see it through all the hair.
