Hi guys ,
Recently someone on Facebook told me that guinea pigs can survive healthily eating solely pellets and first cuts of hay. Not only did they say this they also said they it was much more beneficial than feeding fresh veggies everyday They said Sherwood Pet Health , dr sherwood diet plan was responsible for this theory.
Not planning on doing this just wondering if it is true or not.
Thank you .

Nope. Just, nope.

Humans could theoretically live off meal replacement shakes rather than actual food, but would you want to? Because that's basically what pellets are, a supplement to the main diet and therefor the least important part of the diet. Grass, hay, and a regular supply (and variety, if you wish) of fresh veg are much better for them all round than any pellet could be.

Yes, I am not super experienced, but even I know DON'T DO THAT
That is what they do at pet stores

Pellets are even less important than veg, making up 5% of their diet. But they’re also the junk food of the piggy world. I would sooner cut out pellets than I would veg. But that’s also a difficult balance because you have to then give a varied veg diet so the piggy gets all the nutrients it needs. Pellets are supplemented.

Absolutely agree with the others, you would not cut out veg in favour of feeding pellets.
