So I have been reading up an awful lot, but it's hard to remember everything thats ok and not ok.. I have written my own tables and charts but i have a few other things i have come across and i wanted to ask your opinions!

Birch wood - from the family farm, freshly chopped loggy bits and nice big branches, i thought the i would put them down on floortime for the piggies to gnaw or whatever, birch is safe i believe? (i will check for any sharp splintery parts, but they are very smooth from being hand chopped by my boyfriends dad!)

Rose petals - i know these are safe, but as the winter sets upon us (here in sweden anyway) the fresh plants are all dying quickly. If i went to collect a lot of petals can i possibly freeze them to keep them fresh for treats over the winter? I understand you can dry your own in the oven which i will do anyway i think.

Rosehips - again, how can i keep them from rotting?

Apple wood - i picked some nice branches off of the apple trees (along with loads of apples!) and i thought the piggies might like to nibble them? Is it safe? They also have a little bit of moss on parts of the branches, but i have tried to pick all of that off. What do you guys think?

Is there anything else i can go out and harvest for the winter and keep a stock of? Thanks for your help :)

Well today i went out to get some rose petals... i have dried them in the oven too!

the results

And i also sliced and dried a huge bag of apples from the farm.

I tasted one that wasn't quite dried out but it was really tasty! I have rosehips ready for drying too, i read that you can half them and take the seeds out and dry them too.

Drying is the best option don't freeze, I collect and dry leaves for my chinchillas for the winter months, I put them on a low heat in the oven for 20 minutes :) I do however buy dried rose petals :)

Apple wood is safe, birch is generally considered safe but it depends what kind of birch it is - silver birch is okay (amongst others).
