Hello peoples,Anyway with it been easter I've Got a few pounds And I'm wondering if i should by a male guinea pig from the local pet shop down the road.I've always wanted to breed one animal and P@H wouldnt give me board and sow cos they'd lose money the tight people.

I'd like your opions asif i should get one so they can breed and be a pack of 3 and be really goood mates or not.

Oh BTW how old does a piggie have to be to have babies 18months isnt is?

Why don't you adopt a pair of same sex guinea pigs the same sex as yours or even buy 2 same sex ones. I don't think you need to breed when there pigs needing good homes also theres no gaurantee they would only have one baby she could have 6 and then you would need to seperate mam and dad or get dad neuterd to go abck with mam. Hope that kinda made sense ?

Not such a good idea chuck, get a neutered boar & put him in with the girlies. There are loads of homeless piggies out there who need a home. Plus you will most probably end up with mega vet bills :-\

I think you should think long and hard about this. Breeding piggies WHY there are hundreds in fact thousands in rescues that need forever homes. What would you do if the sow got into trouble delivering the pups could you get her to a vet asap and afford the £200 plus vet bill for a c/section. You would be risking the sows life. Have you thought about where you would house the babies once they are born? Would you keep them all? I really think you have not thought this through at all. Its not just about getting a sow and boar and putting them together. Could you be absolutely sure they are not related in any way what so ever?
Sorry I really think you would be stupid to consider breeding at all enjoy the piggies you have already and if you want to add to the ones you have go to a rescue.

I agree, go and rescue some unwanted guineas, you'll feel more rewarded doing that than bringing more into the world! Besides Kezza is right, what if she has 6 and they all end up being boys? Trust me it happens. My rabbit had 5 babies and they were all girls. Could you afford to have 6 boys neutered?
