Hi,

I'm not sure if i'm posting in the right section-i think i am!

My 2 baby piggies are in a large indoor cage. I can't let them in the garden as the ground is very uneven which makes the run have huge gaps underneath it if you know what i mean. Is it ok to pick some fresh grass and give it to them in their cage? Also i get them out indoors and they seem to like running around on the carpet but i wondered if i put some sandpaper down would it help to keep their nails from overgrowing? I feel a bit daft asking questions but i don't want to end up doing the wrong thing by them!

Luv Tracy

It's fine to give them fresh grass - but give it a bit of a wash under the tap first. (They also love dandelion leafs.)

Also, I don't know if sandpaper would do much good for guinea pigs. o_O Unlike some smaller rodents, most guinea pigs just need their claws regularly clipped.

Picking the grass and giving it to them in the cage is fine, we do that with ours :)

As for the sandpaper I'm not sure thats a good idea, I would have thought it could hurt their paws ( although I'm no expert )

Hi there, it's a fab idea to pick some grass, yes give it a quick rinse if you're unsure what's been on it, but if it's rained it should be ok O0

Sandpaper would be a bit rough on their little butts cause they loooove to drag their backsides at times ::) ::) ::) this gets rid of their poops :o
so it would give them major rash time OUCH, nail clipping can be done by your vets or there's a few threads on here about how to go about it O0 O0

Good questions tho, and a lovely welcome to you from OZ, can't wait to here all about your little ones :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Guinea Pigs don't have hair on the bottom of their feet...just like us, I know I wouldn't like to walk on sandpaper, so I would say no to putting that down :)

You can learn how to clip their nails, or just get a vet to do them when you have check ups etc.....

Welcome to the forum, I hope you like it here O0

I agree with the above :)

Fresh grass is great, but make sure if they arent used to it, you introduce it gradually :) O0

Definate no no to the sandpaper, you can clip the nails yourself or get a vet to do them :)

Thanks for your replies. I will try them with some fresh grass, just a little bit though and see how they get on. I'm glad i asked about the sandpaper and i defiantely won't be using any now!

Luv Tracy
