we went to petsmart in lansing today and got a second guinnie pig...this one is a short haired little piggy and i named her hotlips lol sticking to spikes m a s h interest. hawkeye is larger and has long hair where as hotlips is rather small and has short hair...we got home abot 3-4 oclock and i put the play pen up and but the hall baby gate across to make 2 seprite sides each side has food water and hay and while i was there i bought to little covered soft bed type things they can get into and out of ....which neither one of them has payed any attention to...ahh i see hawkeye has dragged hers into the middle of playpen lol I took the gate seperating each side out to see how there do... I'm happy to say they seem to be doing ok.... theve been chaseing each other around the playpen..when hawkeye stoped chaseing hotlips hotlips will chase hawkeye...for a few minutes it looked like they might get into it hawkeye climbing on top of hotlips and hotlips trying to get away but that lasted less then a minute now there just standing head to head looking at each other and now i hear whati learn ed is ahappy gugle type noise I'm keeping a close eye on them but they seem to be doin ok although iv noticed every once in a while hawkeye with like charg at hotlips stop then turn and run round around again... basicaly they are just interacting with each other and getting to know each other since there lying next to each other now iguess theyve decided to be friends lol but i'll countue to keep an eye on then spike mentioned just leaving them in the playpen over night I'm not sure if thats wise i have the big habata for hawkey and the smaller carry cage i got wth raidar i thought i put htlips inwhat d you think

Hello it’s hard doing the bonding - I’d keep an eye on them …if you separate them then they’ll have to go thru all the bonding / getting to know each other again when you put them back together.
You would know if it wasn’t working ….theyd be lunging at each other , fighting etc
Good luck hopefully Hawkeye has a new friend 🥰

thanks for the reassurence... as hawkeye and hotlips are lying next to each other kind f snuggling id say they are bonding fairly well... i dont think where going to have any proublems....even when they where chaseing each oher around they where more playing then anything else....and of course sniffine each other ... i'll stik the casle thing in there they can go in or climb on it they want to since its so late i'll wait until tomarrow to hang the the toy on the side of the playpen hawkeye is biggger and has long hair and hotlips is small and has short hair they look so cute together....I'm glad i read up onw how to intrudice a new guinny pig to one you already have so they spent most of the day with a babygate between them in the playpen i moved the babygate a couple of hours agao and there doing fine

Awesome, Hope Hawkeye And Hot Lips continue to bond well and become buddies.

they have defently bonded and I'm gald they are happy together sometimes they chase eather around the playpen some times lie next to each other sometimes they ignore each other lol they have gone from snuggling to now each one is in oppsite corners of the playpen lol

Glad everything has worked out well for Hawkeye.
I hope they’ll be very happy together

hawkeye and hotlips are doing great! i have the play pen right next to my chair so i pretty much see all ... today they just seem to be content to sit in different crners f the play pen... i am keeping them in the playpen all the time it gives a lot more room i put food in two different dishes only because i happen to have too and the water bottle is attatched to the play pen when i bought hotlops i bought 2 soft bed type things with soft pillows in them and a top over them ...neither one of them seems to have any instrenst in them... oh well there there should they ever decide to use them i put the castle back in so they have that as a hidy and i shall see what boxes i can find to give a few more...raidar and hawkeye used the castle maybe these guys will to but like i said I'm looking around for a small box or two to turn into a couple more hidys for them and sometime today i'll ge some bread ties and put the toy i got for them in there as well.... and of course i have an empty tolit paper roll to poke holes into and stuff some hay into to give them more to do... will keep researching and learn more about what i can make or buy for them that they might like

I'm a little concerned about hotlips.... she spent the night in the castle hidy but shes still in there she hasnt come out all day she looks ok iv noticed hawkeye isnt very active today either shes just sort of lying in the opsit corner of the play pen... is this a normal behavior where every now and then they just sort of lye around not doing anything?

Morning if they have not moved at all still I would be at the vets but hoping this morning you'll be telling us all is well 🙏

I’m hoping they haven’t moved much because the playpen may seem too open for them as they are prey animals
It’s best to use a playpen for playtimes
Maybe scatter some pellets and food so they need to find it and big piles of hay are good …I’d have 2 of everything ….water bottles , hideys, hay piles eyc
As @CTWC says if they aren’t moving a check up at the Vet is needed - good luck

well there defently eating both pellets and hay and drinkin water....I'm going to get a couply of boxes and make a few more hidys for them i only have the one as raidar and hawkeye always used it together hotlips tends to stay in the hidy a lot its only been what 3 or 4 days that theyve been together raider and hawkeye i think they had been together a lot longer not sure how much longer but the where in the pet store together...i know with dogs when one dies the other goes through a greving process then when a new dog is intruduced the first day or so they kind of follow each other around and sniff each other and sort of get a feel for each other after that often if they dont fight or growl at each other they may just sort of find there own way and are fairly quite the old dog wander off here and then and lying down there personalys seem to change they are quite and dont come to me as often then they will goto a period when all they want to do is snuggle with me it takes a while for them to recover from the loss the new dog will wander around exploring for a bit then they too will find a sopt they want to stay in and are quite a lot for awhile...not wanting to bother the griving dog ( well thats what it seems like to me) then gradualy the first dog will start acting more normalit takes time how much depends on the dog there all different as the first dog heals the new dog will start acting more normal again as well its sutle with animals and can be easy to miss if your new to haveing dogs.... iv had at least one dog but usuly at least 2 all my life after 67 yeas I'm not often surprised.. although as with humans there is always more to learn espically withbreeds youve never had before I'm not sure how it works with guinnies also hawkeye is a long haired piggy and hotlips is short haired dont know how old either one is hotlips is defently smaller then hawkeye... i picke each one up yesterday one at a time of course hotlips was climbing all over most likely trying to get away hawkeye was a bit different when i picked her up she didnt seem as afraid of me as shw was i was surprised whe she sarted climbing up to my face she had never done that before but with a dog i would think she was seeking comfort from something or someone fimular then she settled down and just layed on my lap or chest while i pet her defently different then before raidar died... iv only had hawkeye a couple of maybe 3-4 weeks R most i think this morning hotlips is moving around but of course when i looked over to see better she made a bealine to the hidy... hawkeye has found a corner to sort of just hang out in ahh hots is exploring again getting a drikn and some food if they where dogs i woudlnt really be worried I'm more fimular with there behavior if hawkeye where a dog id just keep an eye on her for a day or so as long as she eating and drinking and going through the greving process shes moving around in the corner shes chosen getting more comfortaable and so that she can see what hotlips is doing sort of streached out some to be more comfortaable which i find comforting as with dogs when griving they try to make themselves as small as possable and as they start to heal they will streach out to be more comfortable sort of a sign that they might be starting to heal if they where dogs i would have a better idea of how there doing and what thay need from me... for right now I'm going to leave them be for a bit and then again pick each one up to sit with me a bit like i said hawkeye seemed to find comfort at that yesterday even though before raidar died she didnt like then i pu her back and pick up hotlips for a bit that gives each one time with me and maybe hawkeye will find comfort with me for a little while I'm thinking with hotlips some is being in the playpen...before that she was in a sort of cage i had just started keeping them in the playpen where they had more room to run play and roam which they didand seemed much happer...I'm kind of hesadent to put hawkeye back in the inclouser where theres less room and shed be isolated and id rather not put both of them in that which could cause problems as it was hawkeye and raidars main home before i rearranged things to makemoor room for the play pen to be up all the time...which hawkeye might object to as well possably finding it an intrusing sigh i wish i was more fimular with guinnie pigs...I'm researching as much as i can i'll try googling griving guinnie pig and maybe that will give more of an insight as to how best to help my griving piggy while making my new one feel more comfortable I'm afraid i migh have gotten a new piggy to soon it was only like i said a few weeks since raidar died which always worked well with my dogs...while giving the griving dog more attention but i havent had hawkeye long that i may have done this whole thing wrong sigh... one thing i noticed on here is that there are no sections to help people know what to do when one of there guinnie pigs dies to help them know how long to wait before getting another one i was worried half to death about hawkeye because she was the only piggie and griving at the same time... perhaps that might be a section to put on the sight to help people new to guinnie pigs know what to do and how to help the surving guinnie pig and how long to wait before getting a new compainion .... hope thats not out of line I'm just searching everything i can to try to find out what is the best plain of action on how to help my griving piggy and hopeing i havent added a new piggy to soon well off to find a couple of guinnie big sized boxes to make a couple of more hidys and i think i'll hang the toy type thing i got when i got hot lips hung to the one side of the play pen hawkeye may not be ready for it but i need to think of hotlips too and it would give her something to do with out bohering hawkeye.... i hate it when one of my animal babies is hurting and i dont know really know the best way to help them .... however with dogs when the new starts settling in and playing a bit the orginal dog begings to at least show some intrestes even if they dont start playing again right away themselves...routine is so important for all of Gods living creatures i just wish i had had hawkeye a little longer before raidar died poor baby is still a bit new here so a concreat routine wasnt really ingrained yet ...

thank you so much! dont know how i missed this link read some of it will countue reading more tomarrow i have to limit my computer time due to cronic sever migrines from what you said and what i read hawkeye seems to be acting normaly hotlips spends a lot of time in the castle hidy but that too can be a normal sign of griving leaveing the griver alone to work through things they are both eating and drinking although hawkeye is eating and drinking a little less then normal also a normal for those griving...i am keeping them in the play pen as thats where raidar died and her sent is on the materal although tomarrow i will have to take the cloth out shake the food pellets and hay they've managed to get all ove it and also with pottying on that it has to be cleaned... and i'll have to put a new one in the playpen i left it alone for as long as i dare but for health reasons it has to be changed tomarrow...i trained and worked as a medial assistant when i was younger( basicaly a lpn nurse and office manager) neither one of them seems interested in the cloth half cave with pillows but i'll them in there for awhile and if they never use them i'll i put them up here for anyone who wants them and can pay the postage....hawkeye is moving a bit more now which i think is a good sign i would like to keep the same floor cloth but it wouldnt be healther... for either piggy...i have the playpen in the livingrom right next to my chair so i can keep a constant eye them....both a good thing and a bad thing at times as i can drive myself crazy when they decided to act differently then usuly or i expect them too... I'm like that with all my animal children i have a cat an assuedoodle a shitzoo and a teacup yorkie besides the 2 piggies.... i dont dare ask hubby for anything else lol like i told hubby God made me to be a mother and he caneiher let me mother him( no way) or he can let me have animal babies lol yup most of the food is gone in both bowls and the waterlevel is much lower but still enoghto last through the night i'll will of course keep checking until i go to bed tonight and makesure they have everything they need and i'll do some searches for homemade safe toys to make i have a couple of bolts of cloth I'm going to unroll one of them and hopefully the cardboard is round and the holes on each end wll be big enough they could crawl through as a tunnel if not i'll i have a link to a place to buy guinnie pig supplys andse wha i can find
