I'm not sure if I'm posting this on the right section, so sorry if i got it wrong :)
I have a 6 week old little sow, I got her just recently, and didn't really think about getting her a friend.
But now I feel it would be lovely to get her a little piggie companion, do you think this is a good idea? Will it be hard to find one she is friends with?
Thanks,
Jess.

Hi Jess
It would be brilliant idea to get your girl a new piggy pal as guinea pigs are very sociable and prefer to be in groups or pairs, maybe you could look for a rescue in your area to see if they have any lone pigs that you can pair up to your girl. Good luck and keep us informed xx

Hi and welcome!

Guinea pigs are herd animals, and they are not really wired to live alone, so your little girl will be ever so happy to have a companion!

The best way is to find a reputable rescue that will allow you to bring her for some "piggy dating", so your girl can make her own choice of who she likes best and wants as her friend; taking your piggies' likes and dislikes into account usually makes for very happy and stable bonds.

I can recommend this one here not too far from you: http://www.windwhistlewarren.org.uk/

I am looking forward to pictures soon!

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

Please do get a little girl friend for your solo sow. My boar, George, was a lone piggy for 4 years until this January when I brought home the little baby boar, Elliot, and I loved how much they got on, and it's amazing to see them communicate, so a few months ago I brought home baby Oscar. My herd is now complete :) The guilt of George being alone for 4 years will never leave me, so don't hesistate and you can enjoy your furry babies! Piggies love to be aroud their own kind :) Let us know if you decide to get a new pal for your little girly.

Welcome to the forum and Yesssss, please do, they are so much happier in pairs, no matter how much time you spend with the lone piggy, humans are no equivalent. I had a similar experience as you, Georgeshuman, I had a guinea pig (William) when I was a kid in the 80s, back then there was not so much advice around and in generally it said, two are better but one if you got a lot of time would be ok too. My William lived 5 years until he got very ill and I always thought he was quite happy but seeing my two piggies together now I still have such a bad conscience for having had William on his own8...So please find a friend and of course, show us the pictures:)) Good luck!
