Adult Guinea Pig
This year's been hard in many aspects of life for us but definitely for the piggies too. We lost fluffy very suddenly to a ri in February and it seemed to spiral a year of pet/piggy illness. Nugget and marshmallow got the snuffles, marshmallow got conjunctivitis repeatedly, mal got a toe infection, flower fought weeks of respitory issues then lost her battle last month, then there's nugget and her bladder issues which started at the end of July. Initially diagnosed with a bladder tumour which sleemed to dissappear at the recheck and then bladder issues flared again after flowers passing it seems she has ic. After 2 weeks of very high metacam (1ml dog twice a day) and 2 cystease capsules, both of which were a battle to get in her and causing more stress I booked a vet appointment resigned to the fact she may need additional pain relief but totally completely panicked at the thought of getting it in her I did a frantic forum search for ic in the middle of the night ahead of that appointment and came accross cartrophen, asked my vet about it and after 4 injections 6 days apart (aside from a slight wobble after sprouts and carrots Xmas day - now firmly off the menu!) she's shown no signs of discomfort since the day after her second injection! She had her 4th yesterday and there was no signs of tenderness or inflammation anymore and we can finally start weaning down the metacam

such a happy ending to the year! Marshmallow has another 5 days left of antibiotics and 6 days of eye drops for her recent bout of snuffles and sore eyes but we seem to be turning a corner with her too!
