Monday our lovely boar Bob Diego left his family heartbroken. He showed some signs of being not well during the weekend - a bit slow and he developed a heavy breathing. My cents was an URI, and an pretty early caught one. I wasnt really worried; he was eating, begging, cruising around his cage and was as happy as usual.

Monday morning we went to the veterinary and found out Bob had lymphoma. Hes lungs did not look great and his throat was swollen. Either we could take him home with some gapabentin and metacam and just wait for Bob spirale down the hill very soon, or give him the blessing. I choosed the terrible blessing.

His best buddy Joe was with him to the last heartbeat. These two had such and amazing bond and were each others oxygen and everything. When Joe had his tooths done this spring Bob was a wreck while waiting. This time its different. They had their goodbyes. Its us humans that feels like we didnt.

Bob really was our happy feet. He was always happy - besides from bathing time. He was a big gent with a big heart. Hard to bond with for me, he was definitely a Guinea pigs pig and not a human pig. But people meant food, and he learned to like us and completely charm us. He loved to change the cage setting and just move things around - hayholders, houses, balls and toys.

Thank you Bob for these 4,5 years of love and trouble ❤️ you vill forever be our ever clever and beautiful baby. Thank you for being such a great best buddy to Joe, to love him even though he was such an a-hole time to time.
Popcorn over that rainbow bridge in peace, and I really hope you know you will be missed by your family ❤️

What a beautiful smile he had. Sleep well and popcorn high over the rainbow bridge gorgeous boy 🌈

I’m so sorry Bob Diego has left for the bridge. He felt your love for him every day and he would be pleased he was spared any further discomfort. Popcorn pain free over the bridge gorgeous boy. ❤️

I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to your gorgeous Bob Diego. It’s very tough having to make that decision. He has clearly left you with some wonderful memories. Big hugs to you and buddy Joe. Sleep tight little chap ❤️🌈

BIG HUGS

I am very sorry that you got the worst kind of news about Bob Diego as a shock diagnosis; it's all our nightmare as loving owners.

But you have been strong for him and have given him the kindest and most loving - if also most heartbreaking - gift that we can give a pet. In view of an already advanced and obviously agressive, fast developing version you have made absolutely the right decision and have spared him days (rather than weeks) of increasing suffering.

Please try to remember him as he was in the safe knowledge that he hasn't suffered much or for long and that he could enjoy his life until very close to the end. Guinea pigs measure their lives in happy todays in good care. Your have given him a lifetime of those so you haven't failed him in any way. There is sadly never any choice for us owners when and in which form the end comes; all we can do is make it as gentle as possible.

Be sad but proud. Your heart is very much in the right place.

You now have a little furry guardian angel who is currently trying to figure out how to fly after you... ;)

Sorry to hear you lost a much loved piggy. It was brave of you to spare him from suffering and let him just slip away peacefully with his friend by his side ❤️🌈

So sorry for your loss.
You filled Bob Diego’s life with love, now be gentle with yourself as you grieve.
Hugs 🤗

Sorry for your loss. You gave Bob Diego a wonderful life full of love and care. Sleep tight Bob Diego x

I'm very touched by your answers 💜
I adopted Bob and his brother Pikachu when they were babies. Bob didnt look healthy, and he had an extra toe on each back foot. I took him home with a feeling he wouldnt be very old. I'm happy I was wrong - in the right environment he has been very healthy with his extra toes until his last days.

Pikachu lost the fight to tongue trapped under teeth last summer. They did not like each other that very much, but they were both very beautiful souls and they are back together again

Thank you.

Bob has clearly had the best of lives thanks to you. Some piggies can totally surprise you. They will always have a very special place in your heart and your memories.

It won't be easy to get used to not having Bob around anymore so be kind with yourself and give yourself time to have moments when you are not OK.

Reunited at the Bridge. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Being here for each other is an important part of the forum.
We understand how big a place in our hearts the piggies occupy 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

I wrote this before and I will write it again;
These kind of attitudes and kindness is what makes this forum so special. People are so helpful, and never scolds anyone when they are not at the same page of knowledge. Old threads has helped me as a "hobby owner" very much, and I'm that kind of person that smiles when people help each other/animals. Right now I'm very grateful that you give me/Bob this kind words. Its really weird without him.
