Hi all :)

So Pongo my Abyssinian piggie has always had the tiniest bald patch on one of his ‘swirls’ but today I’ve looked and it seems as if it’s gotten slightly bigger/the hair is thinning around the area...
I search on here and people have said it’s hormonal?
Can I just verify it is? 😂 I’ve taken them to the vet twice already last month as I’m a paranoid owner! (Been all clear both times!)

Here are some pictures;

There hasn’t been any issues with him at all - eating fine... popcorning... actually seems happier and friendlier then normal 😂

Any sign of blood, dryness cuts in the area?

Can you take a closer photo please?

Jezzy floof had/has something similar. She got treated for mites but it didnt help, then definitively tested for mites and there was nothing, tested for fungal there was nothing, then treated for a possible bacterial skin infection. It cleared up but then came back. Then cleared up and came back. It never gets any worse and sometimes gets better but there's often a slightly balding bum rosette, sometimes with one or two tiny scabs like she's scratched it. The vet concluded its either barbering by her friends or something like eczema that might get a bit sore if she scratches it.
We were a bit worried the hairloss might be ovarian cysts (it still might be) but thats a middle aged lady thing so shouldnt affect your boy... sorry no answers at all but if the vet is sure its not mites or fungal and all the skin tests are negative its a tricky one!

I think it could be possibly barbering. My lil' baby, Cherub, had some barbering issues with her old cage mate and now she has a dime size bald spot on her head, between her ears. I would look into the health parts of this forum and see if they have any useful advice too though. Don't trust my word on it... lol

Nothing like that... smooth and a cute piggie under all that fluff!
I will take another picture in the morning :)

They apparently are healthy - no redness or anything... the two boys have been showing dominance towards each other - so far they are equal and neither dominant from what I can see... so it’s a possibility !?

I will get more pictures in the morning and keep an eye on them :)

Thanks

Does one win chin offs when they play who can raise their head the highest? My boar always wins over my sow, hes the dominant one

My Merab had some aby in her and one of her rosettes had a slightly larger bald centre than the other.
There was nothing at all wrong and it was just the way her fur went.

Hope that's the same with yours.
As one paranoid owner to another - I'm totally in favour of a vet trip to be absolutely sure of anything
