Hi we have only had little Edward for a short time but when I hold him he nips at first it was not to bad but it is getting harder,am not sure if its just excitement as when I put his greens in he runs madly at the dish and starts to bite it and when I chat to him he runs around popcorning and bites his tunnel.I just ignore him when he bites me (not easy when I want to run around holding my thumb and sobbing loudly lol) as I don't want to put him back in his house and he gets the message that if he bites he gets to go back in.Any tips please.tonight I blew on his face when he did it not sure if this will work.

When you hold him, have you been preparing or touching any veggies. It may just be the smell. Usually once they realise it's not food they let go.

No I thought that at first but its anytime and I always wash my hands before I go near him

That's good then, I was just wondering if it could be mites as when mine have them they tend to try to bite when stroked.

Just tell him firmly and gently NO and make clear that you are not appreciating it, but don't shout and give him plenty of fuss and encouragement for "good" behaviour. Fondle his ears (power grooming) to tell him that you are the top piggy, but that he is welcome in your herd on your terms. it is hopefully just a phase in which he is exploring his limits.

Thank you I will do that. When I first got him I brought one of those mite wipes just in case are they any good? And could it be male hormones as Ido think he is older then they said.

I have never used them so am not sure but think they would only possibly work on static mites or running lice not mange mites which are under the skin. It sounds more of a behavioural issue anyway.
