Hi,
One of my sons pigs passed away yesterday and it has left her sister alone in her run. We've had both for a year from 8 weeks old and I would like to know if it would be safe for us to get another little girl and keep them together?. I have been offered a little boy of a simular age that has been castrated, would they fight?. Is it better to get another little girl?,sorry for all the questions but I do not want to stress the pigs and upset my son even more than he is already.Any advice would be great.:^-

Piggies are usually quite social animals and get on well with either sex. A castrated male should be fine. If you are unsure you could always take your piggie to meet the castrated male and see how they get on together. If it doesn't work take your piggie to a rescue centre and see how she reacts with other piggies. In the meantime, if she is lonely, you could always put a teddy or something in with her to cuddle up to. Hopefully other members will be able to help you more. Good luck.

Yes the male you have been offered should be fine. If your at all worried you could try introducing them while your son's not there. I hope it all works out and i'm sorry about your son's guinea pig that passed away.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice,we have decided to get another baby sow and introduce slowly. We have already have found a nice lady who has babies ready in 3 weeks so we can go and choose one and collect when ready.
Our son is fine with that but still upset about Pepsi,he is already talking about the new baby and wondering what to call her. Thanks again for the advice.Lee;)

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Most guinea pigs are social animals so you should be fine with a baby sow or a neutered boar. Be patient and bond them gradually and on neutral territory. Most bondings do work, but each piggy is different (like humans, I guess) and get on well with some and not others, so bear that in mind. Fingers crossed you should be ok.

Let us know how things go.
