Hi this is my first post, hello.
We currently had two lady guinea pigs for 4 years and I’m afraid one (madge) died, she was healthy and happy enough although she did have mange a month ago but the cleared up straight away treatment.
I’m now wondering what to do with the other lady (lucy), can I introduce another baby lady or ladies to her or do I just leave her on her own.
The cage is a 3 foot upstairs & downstairs rabbit cage (no rabbit) which they loved running up and down the levels together so there’s plenty of room.
I’ve just spoke to two local pet shops one said yes they would mix and one sad they wouldn’t so I’m now asking for your help
Thanks mark

hi and welcome to the forum. sorry for the loss of madge. what lots of people do is take there piggie down to a rescue center to pick out a new friend them selves. we have done this and it worked out very well. she will need a friend and a rescue piggie is a great idea. have a look at the rescue section on this forum, that should help.

Hi and welcome to the forum :) from me in OZ x
Oh so so sorry to hear about your little girl Madge 8...8...8... awww i hope her friend Lucy will be ok.......yes many people on here advise bonding with another piggie .........perhaps a younger one? but remember to intro on neutral territory so not to upset Lucy and the new piggie... we have quite a few threads on this that might help.......re bathing first etc... have a bit of a read, i do hope this helps x
I'm sure you'll get lots of help real soon from our lovely people on here :)
Looking forward to chatting to you more :)

Whereabouts are you? I see no reason why you couldn't try her with a sow her own age or a younger sow - she should be fine. Most rescues will help you (or her!) choose a friend.

As long as your other piggy didn't die of anything contagious, I wouldn't leave it too long to find her a friend as they can either pine if they're alone, or get too used to it!

I’m in leicester, I have tried one rescue centre but no guinea pigs, spoke to the local pet shop again and they suggested bringing lucy to them to see how she acts. What I am thinking is to get 2 young ladies to put in with lucy as lucy is 4 years old she’s not in her prime now and in time she will also go (if that makes sense)
