For those that don't follow my guinea pigs blog you probably haven't heard, but nearly two weeks ago, my precious boy Nibbles passed away at the grand age of seven. I was so heartbroken that for the first few days I completely missed the signs that Nutty was grieving terribly. And then he stopped eating. He was rushed to the vet but they tested for everything you can think of and sent us on to our cavy savvy vet a bit of a distance away. She checked everything, including his teeth with a strange contraption I'd never seen before and there was nothing wrong with him. We concluded that he was grieving deeply. He cuddled up to a pet safe cuddly toy we put in with him and so began my search for a friend for him.

I started by checking local rescues but there was nothing suitable without travelling quite a distance and I was about to see if I could convince my Dad to drive me two hours to get to the one that did have piggies when I heard something from the lady I often babysit for. Her hairdresser had bought two little guinea pigs which were 'supposedly' boys, from a pet shop which will remain nameless. And the story we have heard time and time again, she found herself with six little piggies. The babies were two boys and two girls. She paired up one boy with the dad and the girls were going to stay with Mum but that left one that the others hadn't got along with. So there I come in. The little one is eight weeks old and has been staying in a quarantine cage for a little while but today I am going to introduce and hopefully bond him and Nutty.

Fingers crossed everything goes ok. My little brother has been trying to think up a name for new piggy but we are pretty stuck so I thought I'd turn to you guys for some help!

This is the one picture I took of him, just as I was about to move him from the carrier into the quarantine cage (I've pretty much left him alone other than that as he is pretty shy, bless him!)

So any idea on names? My brother is set on it starting with 'N' and going well with Nutty. So far we have suggestions of

Nacho
Nelson
Napoleon
Neville
Neddy

Our other boys are Nutty of course and then Buddy and Basil if that helps.

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

So sorry to hear about Nibbles but he reached such a great age! R.I.P little guy have fun at the bridge!

Aw the new one is so cute...and so small! x) I like the name nacho but neddy goes really well with nutty! :))

Really hope the bonding goes well! Good luck!x

Oh Amy I am so sorry you lost Nibbles. If you ever need to talk please p.m me. Your new baby is gorgeous. I like the name Nadir for him.

Really sorry about Nibbles, he had such an amazing long life with you, bless him.

I think your new boy is gorgeous x) I like Nacho, but piggyfans suggestion of Nadir is really cool.

I am very sorry about Nibbles and poor Nutty! Hopefully, the little cutie will perk him up again!

What about Nickel? Otherwise I like Nacho or Nelson best.

Little brother has gone for Nacho as a name for this cute little guy! Initial signs look good from the meeting. A lot of trying to work out who is boss, followed by both cuddling up and going to sleep on a pile of grass!

Sorry to hear your news about Nibbles, he was a lovely little guy. I have enjoyed following his and the rest of the piggies antics on your blog. Love the name Nacho for your newbie, very cute indeed. Hope Nutty falls for him. Fingers crossed the bonding continues to go well xx

Thought you guys might like to see the introduction so I filmed it and made a little video! Enjoy!

Awwwh lovely to see them getting on so well! Poor Nacho :p hope Nutty's advances didn't stress him out too much, lol.

Really sorry to hear of the loss of your piggy : ( how ever I have to say nacho (love that name) and nutty look like they'll be a great match. I loved your video with the wording and music : )

My Mum came up with the music and it just fitted them so perfectly. I'm glad it all went smoothly and so happy watching them cuddled up and sharing veggies together this morning!

ps. my brother loves calling him Nacho Nacho Man! lol

I followed your story on twitter (Suzy from The Piggy Lounge here :)) and so happy he found a friend now. How are they doing?

They are getting along famously! I thought with this awful hot weather we might have some issues (Buddy and Basil had a little argument yesterday thanks to the heat) but they are cuddling up and playing and popcorning like crazy all the time. It's the first time I've seen Nutty popcorn since we lost Nibbles.

Nacho is soo tame too. If you get Nutty out, Nacho is climbing up desperately, wanting to come and have cuddles too! And if you take Nacho out and leave Nutty in the cage, he climbs up and watches you with a sort of 'what-are-you-doing-with-my-baby' look. It's so sweet!

So pleased for you and for Nutty that it's all gone so well :)) I have pair which do the same, but generally they act as if they don't really like each other but if you pick up one for a cuddle the other zooms around looking for their 'lost' friend and then sit wheeking like crazy at your feet for them to come back!

First thing I thought of! :D
Sorry to hear about Nibbles, he had a fab life thought and it sounds like Nutty is getting on great with his new little buddy!

I am sorry that the noble Sir Nibbles has passed away, but what a grand old age he reached! The new boy is gorgeous, he looks a lot like Basil. I am so glad to hear that he is making Nutty happy.
