Hello,

I've been away for a while... some of you may remember me posting about sadly losing our gorgeous Rusty to a URI just over a month ago, leaving Pascal all alone. Well, Pascal has fully recovered from his URI and is now a healthy pig. And the most exciting news is that he now has a new friend! A few weeks ago the rodentologist that we go to recommended a different rescue centre, and we selected a spayed female guinea pig (about 8 months old) to be Pascal's new friend. The guinea pigs she was with were all white, all of around the same age and size, so to identify which one was ours, the woman at the rescue, marked our pig's head with a green mark (which she assured us wasn't harmful). Because of this green mark, we decided to call her Jade. :)

But before we could take Jade with us, we had to have a home visit. The whole process took a little while, and we could tell that Pascal was still feeling down and lonely. He was still so jumpy, and spent most of his time in his pigloo. But on Sunday, we got to go and pick Jade up and bring her home! We introduced them outside in their run, and when Pascal first acknowledged her... well... let's just say he was rather excited to be in the company of a female guinea pig for the first time in his life! He spent pretty much the whole of the first day chasing her around and rumbling! That behaviour has now calmed down considerably, and they seem to be getting on really well. :) She follows him around now, and quite often I'll come into my room to find them both lying next to each other. We haven't really handled Jade yet, as for the first two days she was incredibly timid, but she seems to be settling in a little better each day. She seems more confident, moving around more, and is eating and drinking more now too.

And the change in Pascal is so noticeable already! He's no longer so jumpy, and I saw him popcorn for the first time ever today, which made me very happy :D So I just wanted to share this with people who understand :) Here are a couple of pigtures from their first meeting:

Congratulations to you and Pascal! Jade is totally beautiful x)

Really pleased to hear they are getting along so well, it must have been lovely to see him popcorn. Looking forward to hearing more about their adventures together and lots more photos. Love her name by the way.

Jade is beautiful and the spit of my spayed sow Sophie. Is she from Rubgy by any chance? They look really happy together, congratulations.

Great to see another RNGP Welfare piggy find the big love and a happy home. Pascal and Jade make a stunning pair!

Nothing like a boar meeting girls for the first time in his life... x) It is quite an experience, isn't it? But a reason why I am such a fan of having a neutered "husboar" in each of my girl groups.

If you want to know how your Jade came about, here is the story: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?96208-Dumped-piggies-at-RNGPW

There were over 30 surviving babies from all those pregnant sows in the end. Many of the now neutered baby boys are still looking for a home - and yes, most of them are white, but not all of them (unlike the girls)!

What a small world! Looks like we may have piggie sisters then :) Haha. Sophie is also gorgeous, don't they have such lovely eyes? It's great to hear that she is also settling in well and that your boy is also very happy. Congratulations!

They do don't they. All the girls are so pretty, though I do ahve a soft spot for white pigs (I have 2 PEWs too).

Thank you, Wiebke! It's awful that so many poor piggies were just abandoned like that.... but great that many have now found homes! Hopefully the boys will all find homes soon too :)
