One of my guinea pigs has a bald patch behind one ear. The skin around it is brown underneath the hair. Problem or is this normal?

Take a pic of it so we can see - all guinea pigs have bald patches behind their ears, some have a fine baby hair there but most are bald.

Hopefully it's completely normal but if it's not the most likely cause is mites or fungal - different treatments so will need diagnosing before treatment.

Hi yes as Suzy said take a pic for us to see, we can only advise tho, seeing a vet is the best :)
Remember too that piggies do have a little bald patch just behind each ear :)

Pigs do all have bald spots behind their ears- does the brownish skin match with any colouration on the piggie's fur? Their skin colour often corresponds with their fur colour... one of my pigs was white/red and had noticeable patches of brown on her ears and behind them (where she would have had red fur had she had fur there, kwim?) My brindle pig has brindle skin- mostly brown but mottled with black.

Thankyou everyone for your ideas and advice i will take a pic and try to upload it [ i still cant work it out! ] btw my guinea is white haired so I'm a bit worried

Hi
I've tried to take a picture but the cameras not very good so it all blurry and you cant see anything. But I could Explain it better: there is a bald patch on behind both of her ears and the skin around [still with hair] looks brown and shes a white haired piggie.

Does the skin look crusty?
It is normal for guinea pigs to have bold patches there.
If the skin doesn't look irritated, dry or crusty, most likely your pig is perfectly fine :)
Perhaps the skin is different colour just there. My lovely light-skinned ginger boy had black skin behind ears

my pig bob is the same, he's white, wi th the normal bald patch and the skin is brown, as long as the skin doesn't look irritated i reckon he's ok x
