, she has had her teeth fixed but they are currently too short to eat and I think sore. She is on metacam 0.4mls once a day. She is on pureed food as directed in the hand feeding guide on here. The issue I’m having is she will only eat after she has had the medication and is blatantly very hungry. When I try to feed her later she won’t eat and gets very stressed, does anyone know if you can spread the dose out through the day? Would be very grateful for any help she has gone from 1100g (weigh in 6 weeks ago at vet) to 707g yesterday and down to 695 grams today.

Also how long will it take for her teeth to grow out again?

I am not sure about how long it will take but think it may be a couple of weeks.

Yes I would split the dose definitely into twice a day. Also when I was fostering a little dental pig a couple of years ago I put Calgel in his mouth a minute before each feed which seemed to help as it numbed the sore areas. Others may have different recommendations though.

Mother is very poorly at present with what is a suspected UTI. She's on just 0.2 ml Loxicom a day which is another form of Metacam & aren't sure if it's the same strength or stronger. I too am having big problems syringe feeding her. She's just about OK for first 5 or 6 1 ml syringes of food but then she starts fighting it. I spent 2 hours tonight giving her 20 ml & will do the same in the morning. She can eat food such as veggies OK but loses interest after about a minute. Over last 2 days I gave her total of 20 ml a day & she still lost 32 grams in weight. She's had x-rays today & no stones were found so continuing with treatment till Monday when she's due back at vets who said that if the inflammation has eased will do an ultra sound scan.

Yep its syringe feeding, I'm comfortable with doing this and after the meds she will try to steal the food off the plate, but later on she isn't interested. Will try splitting the dose in two. and see if this helps.

here is my now tiny baby.

Helen how much Calgel did you use and how did you get it on the gums?

Just a small amount and I applied gently with a cotton bud. It will depend how confident you are at applying it though.

Others may have different advice.
