Having just collected my herd from their Guinea Pig boarder I felt that they were all a bit lighter so I weighed them when we got home.
All 4 have lost weight - between 50 - 80g.

They went to a boarder as Micah still needed eye drops and the friends who normally feed them weren’t able to do that.

Micah’s eye looks so much better and all piggies look well, except for the weight loss.

For the last week they have been living in a shed - heated at night, but lots of fresh air during the day.
They were also put out in a run on the path one day when the weather was fine, but it has been very cold.
Mine are indoor pigs and used to a warmer environment.
Could this account for the weight loss?

They were very happy to be back in their own cage. I put in extra hay and added some oats and grated sweet potato to their veggies.

The cold weather could be a factor or even just being unsettled at being away from home, and being outside could be a bit unnerving for them if they aren't used to it... they can always come to my house again next time you're away! X

Thanks for the reassurance. It was all a bit last minute with Micah getting hay poke and lack of time to sort things out.
I think I will have to keep a spare cage at your house for my herd :D

It’s always difficult to leave piggies behind while you are away. I think that the change in environment will have had some affect and all animals burn up extra calories trying to keep warm including us humans. So glad little Micah‘s eye looks better now. Hope you had a lovely time in Yorkshire too

I thought of you as we travelled around East Yorkshire.
