A Silly Question...

I have been watching Poppy and found her looking cute and doing a crouch. I think she was having a wee, but then she started pooing, and produced about 5 of them, all in a little pile. She did not appear to be in pain, and there was no squeaking, but I have never seen her bunched up like that before. I don't think that she was straining. Can piggies get constipation?

I thought that piggies simply pooed as they walked along...or was it because she had a wee at the same time?

I have given her some cucumber, and there is nothing else in their cage except water, nuggets and lots of hay.

No, no worry at all! Piggy can "power poo" when a meal has been processed and produce a quite impressive heap in one go! The poos can pretty much tumble ou, and sometimes you can even see two coming out of the hole together.

Everybody has to start right at the beginning, and we are here to help you work out what is normal and what not. There is no such thing like asking a silly question! You are welcome to ask anything that is baffling you; and can confidently assume that there are another ten new owners very grateful for doing it on their behalf, too!

You usually feel very protective and insecure at the beginning since with all the information around, so the expection to get everything right from the word go is sky high. But pet ownership, like being parents, it is life long learning curve, not an Olympic final race. I am still learning about piggies, too.
Don't put too much pressure on yourself - pet keeping is not about getting everything right all the time, it is about learning and not repeating your mistakes. Often you learn more from not getting it right; that is how I have acquired most my knowledge over the years.

As long as your piggies are eating and active and not itching madly every few minutes, they are most likely doing just fine and you are only discovering a new and surprising facet of their lives.
