So, after having Gremlin in for his x-ray, today he was in surgery and removal of a stone of approximately 1cm. He's home and doing pretty well. He's tired and a little grumpy but he has munched his dinner and is happily lying in his bed getting through some Timothy hay. His x-ray was otherwise clear and he's had his blood taken for testing too so hopefully that'll all be good too.

Glad that all has gone well! All the best for a smooth recovery!

here are our post-op care tips to help you know what to look out for and when to step in with support care or see a vet as an emergency: Tips For Post-operative Care

You can find diet tips for guinea pigs with bladder stones in our diet guide.
Please be aware that it takes some time for any dietary changes to kick in and also for any imbalances in the complex calcium absorption process to settle down: Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

We also strongly recommend to give any guinea pigs with serious or long term urinary tract problems a glucosamine based cat food bladder supplement like cystease in order to support the beleagered natural glucosamine coating of the bladder.
If wished, you can discuss this with your vet. It is not classed as a medication and widely available online.

Thanks for that, I have critical care, cystease, fibreplex and I've been giving him low calcium veg for about a year now. I filter the water for him too. Going to try to switch him to grain free pellets again too.

So, 24 hours later and he seems to be improved, he's mega excited with his veg and he seems to be eating his hay. He is not interested in eating his pellets though. I have syringed him with about 12ml of cc this afternoon in 2 sittings and about the same of water.

Just keep monitoring his weight daily. As hay is making over 80% of daily food intake, you cannot control it just by eye, but it is VERY good that he is eating it! 1 tablespoon of pellets is about 5% of the daily food intake. He is basically leaving out his pudding. ;)

Please do not give water unless he is taking it willingly. If he is eating veg, then he is getting plenty of fluids and will drink on his own.
You need to water only guinea pigs off their food. With the others, the drinking instinct, which is stronger than the eating instincts will have kicked in as well when they start eating on their own. ;)

Thanks, I'm not forcing him, well, except for the first bit of cc. When he decided it was tasty he started trying to snatch the syringe away.

Just give him as much as he wants to take; but these are all very positive signs. Just the absence of the pain from the stone in the bladder is usually such a huge relief!

Thanks everyone for your healing vibes and well wishes. He's back to normal I think now, eating well, drinking well, being cheeky and expecting a snack everytime I go into the kitchen. Been weighing him for the last few days and although he's lost about 100g in total he's put about 10 or so back on in 4 days to take him to 1245g. He's happier, more active and just looks better than a week ago.
