... Apparently when he was younger they used to have a heard of 16/17 guinea pigs which lived in their shed. In the day though they used to roam around their street, going into peoples gardens and running around in a big pack, then every single night they used to come home and sleep in the shed!

I can't get my head around it but he swears that they never came to any harm from cats etc as there were non in the area and as the road they lived on would be classed as almost rural there wasn't really a risk of traffic. Plus my dads parents didn't really bother what their kids did, as long as they weren't getting into trouble. There is not a chance they would have purchased a cage for them but didn't see any problem in them having a huge amount of animals that just roamed free?!

They had so many as a man near them used to have a huge shed with cages upon cages of guinea pigs which he breed for research :)>>> My dad and his brothers hated the thought of them being tested on so "rescued" as many as they could.

I can't work out whether that's a wonderful life for the piggies or completely the opposite?!

Interesting story though IMO!

omg, thats a right "back in the day story" :)) are you sure its entirely true? Mind you, life was a lot easier when there wasn't loads of cars everywhere so it wouldn't suprise me

we had two dutch rabbits called donna and bunty, i can still see them in my mind, they had a hutch in the garden, but it was left open on the floor during the day , and they went along the gardens, and when it got to dusk my mum would bang their food dish on the ground and they would come running, this went on for a long time, until one day a lady two streets away knocked on the door to say she had found out that the rabbits were ours, and could we please keep them in as they had eaten all her lettuces! we had no idea they were going that far!

:(|) naughty bunnies :(|)
My mum always had Siamese cats x) and they were quite fussy eaters and very spoiled. One evening, one came walking down the garden path with what we thought was a rat - eeek - but as he got closer, he had a huge uncooked pork chop clamped between his jaws :{
Somebody must have been baffled at teatime rolleyes

My nieces and nephews had Guinea Pigs once and they were outdoor ones, one winter my brother relocated their huge hutch and run into the Greenhouse with a few modifications to keep them cosy. Unfortunately they managed to escape and set up a new home under the shed. He tried for months to catch them fearing they would be freezing or under attack from cats and wild animals, but he couldnt catch them everytime he tried they would run back into the burrow they had made under the shed. So he kept putting food and veg out for them. Apparently they lived a good few years under the shed in their little herd of 3. I remember visiting him and seeing the piggies roaming and grazing on the lawn! I'm still not decided if this was good or bad rolleyes

I love all these stories too! Again not entirely sure if it's in the animals best interests but I guess if that's what they prefer to do then they must be pretty happy!

If it were anyone else saying it, I'd be a bit dubious if I'm honest but because it's come from my dad I trust every word he says. He's always 100% honest with me, even if it sounds brutal. Like how he's told me never to even consider going on the X factor because I don't stand a chance and will be laughed off, or try getting into foot modeling because my feet are "the worst he's ever seen in his life".

Although he did to lie to me for many years about father Christmas and the tooth fairy, I can let him off for that though! :))
