babybear

I just wanted to thank everyone for all there kind thoughts and suggestions re my sick piggie Toffee.

Sadly she passed in the night.

I now only have my one girl left, Treacle.

She was always the more adventurous of the two but I am now unsure whether or not to get another to keep her company.

She is only 3 1/2 so still hopefully got some good years left BUT.....

After the heartache I've been through with Toffee and my last piggie I had decided that these 2 would be my last (for a while at least).

I will however do what ever is best for Treacle but she is a pretty dominant pigglet and her and Toffee were never separated for the 3 years I've had them so not sure how she will react .

Any ideas/advice on what would be best?

I would be looking to get a piggie of a similar age if I did get her a companion and preferably one from a rescue centre.

Many thanks

k

So sorry for your loss
give it time before deciding what to do
I did that last year when Violet died and Pansy was on her own
Now i have 27!

Oh no that has really made me sad. The poor little thing she was a lovely pig. :'( I'm so sorry for your loss (((Hugs)))

I would get Treacle a friend, it can work two ways either a pig her own age or a baby but then when Treacle meets up again with Toffee you will have the same problem of needing to get another pig to pair with the young sow.

Some rescues let you take your pig along to a rescue to see if pairing goes well.

Good luck and hope Treacle is ok,

Louise

I am so sad to hear that toffee has gone to the bridge RIP little one :smitten: :smitten:

I think I would get a little friend for Treacle, I know how hard it must be but you aren't Replacing toffee you must remember that ;)

I am sure what ever you decide Treacle will be very happy it sounds like she has a fab loving home so she will have plenty of attention ;)

That's one of my main concerns - that and the potential that the sows won't get on. :-\

I'm so so sorry for you all :'( :'( :'(
RIP Toffee 0:) 0:) 0:) run free at the bridge little one, i'm sure you'll have met up with some lovely piggies and they're showing you all the best patches of green grass to munch on :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
(((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) and piggie kisses from us for both you and her little mate Treacle :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Give yourself some time regarding a friend for Treacle, perhaps you could try taking her to a rescue centre and letting her pick a friend :smitten:
again i'm so sorry to hear of your sad news :'(

Me too

You must be absolutely devastated. Give yourself time to grieve before you throw yourself into plans ... I would

Little Toffee is undoubtedly being given the grand tour of Rainbow Bridge by all the boys fighting for her attention 0:)

Little Treacle will grieve too so give her lots of extra love and when the time is right I'm sure that her new friend will appear from somewhere. Toffee will point you in the right direction :smitten:

Thanks - she seemed a little quite this morning but was eating well.

She was cuddle up next to Toffee when I found her and I think it's better that she's seen her like that rather than getting her PTS by the vet.

I've filled an old sock with some cloth to give her something to cuddle into in the meantime.

I kept my last boy on his own for 3 years and he was fine but very clingy and I did feel bad about it.

Will see how she goes and maybe get lots of toys for her to keep her happy - although she is most happy when eating! ::)

When our little boy lost his mate, even tho they were in a divided cage, he missed him horribly so i got him a lovely soft toy 'dog' and that dog Brownie sleeps with Duke and goes to the vet and everything.... just a suggestion which might help Treacle :)

so so sorry to hear that :'( (((MASSIVE HUGS)))) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: RIP little one 0:)
i would get her a friend, if you go to a rescue, you may be able to find one that is of a similar age, and some rescues will let you try out and see if she likes the other piggie O0 (((hugs))) let us know what you decide O0

I thought about that but Treacle likes to eat EVERYTHING! Did you get a piggie friendly toy?

i posted in your other thread, again i am so sorry for your lost, i would also not let those jerks of vets get away with what they did saying toffee's teeth were alright. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: i know it won't bring toffee back but it might help someone else with a piggy. just a thought. know that toffee is at peace and popcorning around watching over you. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
i would not get treacle another friend yet, both your feelings and treacles are raw and you are grieving the lost of toffee. perhaps spend more time with treacle or more toys. our hearts go out to you and the pain you are feeling. :'( :'( :'( sending hugs and cuddles to you :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
i would advise you before treacle gets sick if she should find a guinea pig savy vet before it is needed, i would most certainly NOT go back to those jerks again. :tickedoff: take care and know toffee is wheeking down at you, think of the good times and she'll always be with you. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: if treacle is eating and happy then maybe hold off for awhile. good luck. thinking of you. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Sooooooo sorry for the loss of Toffee :'(

As you say she is a dominant piggie then I think if you do decide to get her another pal then it'd be best to get a young one. She may take more kindly to it than to one of similar age who may already have established it's own dominance and be an alpha piggie. Just what I'd do.

So sorry you lost your piggie, I was following your thread. S&T mentioned that some rescues will let you take your girl along and let her find her own pal, that's a great idea when you are both ready and they can be a support to you with the settling in process. I'm sure if you go down that route the forum members will be able to help you locate a good rescue close to you :) RIP Toffee.
