Dad says I can get my guinea pigs whenever I want instead of waiting to after Christmas , so I went and paid for 2 females in my local pet shop who have been in the shop for months , I am picking them up once the cage is set up in my room , which should take no longer then a week :<>

And I know people don't think buying from pet shops is right... but there was none in rescues. The shop only gets their animals from local breeders and can give me the details of were the animals were born etc. so I know I am getting nice healthy girls .

I will be popping into the shop regularly to get the girls used to me a bit and to see them in general :) .

I am so happy right now and nervous that in a weeks time I will have the girls home with me and officially be a piggy mummy!

Congrats.Hope you enjoy them as much as I do mine.Remember two of everything

Oh you will love having them as I adore my boys they are the most beautiful creatures x

All my pigs are from pet shops, and i don't want to jinx us or anything but in the grand scheme of things they have been very healthy. :) At the time i didn't even know there were such things as guinea pig rescues. Anyway, enjoy them!

Goth Mummy - I haven't a clue so any suggestions are more then welcome!

Thank you everyone for the lovely comment and its nice to hear of other people who have healthy piggies from pet shops

Congrats! You can go rescue when you have a rescue to go to; but we are well aware that Northern Ireland is barren in that respect. Great that you are taking on the forgotten piggies instead!

The same goes for the US - not everybody can get access to a rescue, and good rescues are even rarer. Craigslist has the same risks as the British freeads. But it is always worth looking around to see whether there are any within your reach.
Here are a few links that can be helpful for finding US rescues.

My first piggies were pet shop, Georgie lived till she was 3 but Rosie is still going at 7.5, and it is only recently that she's started having health problems :)
