I just saw this on my facebook feed and thought I should warn other loving owners.

I hope most people can see it.

Here's the story minus photos.

"Warning to those who use fleece and snuggles.
This happened in a matter of hours while we were out. The pig in the picture had chewed a couple of holes in his snuggle. Somehow he then must have got his leg caught in the holes and it wrapped round his leg. It was so tight we had to cut it off to relieve the pressure.
Unfortunately the damage had been done as he had tried to eat his own foot to get free and the circulation had been cut to his foot.
He is booked back in at the vets tomorrow, after todays consulation, for his leg to be amputated."

"* UPDATE*
after a succesfull amputation I am sad to say we lost Magneto in recovery at the vets.
Thank you all for your thoughts."

Awe that's sad. I use fleece so will be keeping any eye out for holes! I've never seen my piggies chewing at it at all so I'm hoping we'll be ok! Thank you for sharing

No problem. :)
Yeah same here but I thought a warning wouldn't hurt to go out.

I couldn't agree more if you hadn't of put this here I would never have thought to keep any eye out, and even if it had holes it wouldn't occur to me that might happen! Thank you

My goodness, that's so tragic. :(
I don't want to use fleece anymore now! So shocked.

Yeah certainly. I have a fleece cosy but my lot dont seem bothered about it but I'll still keep an eye out just in case.
You're welcome!

I know, the poor piggie. :(

What a tragic accident :( I have to say, an accident like this can happen with any kind of toy or bed we choose to have for our animals, sometimes we just can't foresee these things no matter how hard we try. The only way to avoid accidents I think would be to have a completely bare cage with just a bowl and water, and we all no that's not fair on the quality of life of our critters.

RIP little Magneto, sleep tight and popcorn free at rainbow bridge.

What a sad accident! It is the first time I have come across anything like this in years, as gnawing holes in fleece is very rare. But there is always a first, I guess. Sadly, freak accidents can happen with any bedding and in any setting. :(

Yeah exactly! Thats why I thought a warning was best so if a user with fleece does see their piggie chewing it they can be sure to make sure to either watch the piggie really carefully or replace the fleece so this won't happen to the piggie.

Poor little guy.

It's such a shame. Thank you for highlighting this to us though, it will make many people more away even if it weak a freak accident :(

No problem =)

Yeah I just feel bad for the wee thing. Anyone knows chewing off a limb is always a last chance type thing. Poor little guy. I feel bad for the owner too. I'm sure he feels so guilty.

I'd feel terrible too, but sometimes these things happen even though we do everything we can possibly think of to stop it :(

Poor little guy! One of my hedgehogs once managed to get a stray hair wrapped around her foot and it was cutting off the circulation. Fortunately we found it and managed to remove it prior to any permanent damage being done. I guess these kinds of freak occurrences can happen. :(

Oh wow just a hair. How amazing that such little things can do such big damage to our little friends.
I'm glad you managed to get it off before any damage was done.

I know! It was wound so tightly around her foot that we actually cut her trying to get it off (but had no choice, as her little toes were purple and she was in pain.) I'm positive that if we had not seen it before going out the door that morning, she would have lost her foot at the very least. We could barely even see the hair itself (I'm blonde and my hair is quite fine) but it was wound up unbelievably tight. It never occurred to me that something like a stray hair could be so dangerous!

Yeah wow thats amazing. I'm glad that you caught it. Poor mite and poor you. I'm sure it was a shock.

Thanks for the warning. This was a freak accident but It does show one has to be as vigilant as possible with pets. If there is any way they can get into trouble they will!
