38 piggies were dumped outside our local PetsatHome in various sized toy boxes recently. Sexes mixed in together, a lot of males had bite wounds and a lot of the females are heavily pregnant. One piggy already died. As far as I am aware PetsatHome are distributing the homeless piggies around their north wales stores for eventual rehoming. Fingers crossed they find more suitable and loving people to take them on, poor sweethearts.:(

Oh no that's terrible. Poor piggies. :( Hope pets at home get them treated and healthy for re homing.

oh no that is awful... the poor piggies... Lets hope the pet shop looks after them and gets them checked by their vets :(

this is awful - makes you wonder though if it's borne of ignorance rather than deliberate cruelty - a situation that got out of hand for the owner and they took them to somewhere where the pigs might have a chance.

the outcome is still awful for the pigs but hopefully there can be happy outcomes for all. I wonder if the offender has been captured on cctv - i would have thought the chances of being caught for abandonment in such a public place pretty high

Thanks everyone. The instore vet did give them all a thorough checking over, from the report in the local press they are hoping to sort the healthy ones into compatable pairs and rehome through their adoption scheme. I wonder if their cctv did pick something up. I agree it sounds like a situation that just snowballed and they didn't know what to do:(

How awful.
But I do think the pet shops need to accept some responsibility for the problem.
I am sure many people arrive home with 2 pigs, and a few weeks later discover babies in the cage.
At this point hopefully most people would go back to the pet store for help, but I am sure some people can't or don't realise how quickly a situation can get out of hand.
Such a shame, as at the end of the day it's the animals that suffer.
Well done to Pets at Home for at least trying to sort the mess out, although I can't help but think if they sexed their piggies better in the first place, or only sold neutered boars then there would be far less of this type of thing to sort out
