So the other day I got my piggies Isabella and Candice ready for they weekly check over and nail clipping. Brushing Isabella I noticed some hair loss on one side and a swelling. Of to the vet we went and the vet put a needle into it and squeezed this thick stuff out of it. She has a course of antibiotics and I have to clean it with salt water. Is there anything else I can do?

Baytril, and I don't think wound has been left open in that when she squeezed out all the stuff she cleaned it and that was it.

What colour was the pus? Black, white, yellow. Did the vet say it was an abscess or cyst? Abscesses tend to happen more in the neck/throat/face area, but cysts are more common in the sides & back.

It was white and the location is on her back So perhaps it was a cyst then (I did not take her to the vet myself)

That sound a bit more like a cyst to me. Is she on probiotics with the Baytril?

I just had Minnie to the vets on Saturday & her lump was also a sebaceous cyst with white pus. My vet also squeezed it out but hasn't given antibiotics. The chances are that it will return but cysts are generally life threatening like abscesses. If Minnie's cyst returns I'll book an appointment to have it surgically removed. For the time being I would keep a check on it & make sure it's clean. If it comes back then maybe discuss with your vet about getting it removed.

yep she got probatics Avipro plus. have to take her back on 5 June. She said it was not life threating. So will see how she goes.

:help: oh is that supposed to be cysts are NOT generally life threatening ?? hope so as mine has a sebacious cyst & it just has to be squeezed out every now & again, it has a creamy white cottage cheese appearance with no real odour to it when its cleared. although i know some can be a problem.

Isabella is sent healing vibes from the girls & i though. hope she's soon sorted  xx

Yes it should be "are not generally life threatening". I'll ask an admin member to edit it. @sport_billy

She is enjoying the nice warm blanket wrapped around her when she has her syringe with antibiotics and the slice of cucumber after. She has had baytril before with no effects. she only has 0.5ml
