Junior Guinea Pig
I noticed Hamish's heart was beating hard enough for me to feel it on Sunday, but he seemed OK. Monday we noticed wheezing, so took him to the vet immediately. She said his heart is OK but agreed that he's wheezy. She put him on a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. There a no other symptoms like discharge or sneezing. The hay brand has been changed quite recently. It seems dusty. Not sure if it's a reaction to that rather than infection. Vet thought it possible. Am getting previous brand today and have limited his contact with the new brand since yesterday. I wish I'd changed it sooner but was convinced at first it was a respiratory infection. Took him back to the vet on Wednesday because his breathing seemed worse but weirdly his breathing seemed better in there. You can see his sides jerk when he's breathing lying down in hutch.
So far his companion thankfully seems OK but is on antibiotics as a precaution.
Hamish is eating and drinking and seems fairly unphased by it. I'm freaking out! His weight is steady. He's four and a half years old.
Any advice as to whether it's likely to be respiratory, inhalant allergy, heart problem or something else we haven't thought of would be appreciated, please.
