I'd like to know how difficult it is to introduce a piggie to cats.

Two years ago me and my gf take care of a piggy, named twitch, that lived in her house. Sadly he passed sooner than expected because of an illness, so we ended up devastated. He loved cuddling, and was so adorable and affectionate, that we transformed in some kind of piggy lovers.

Now i feel ready to take care of a new piggy but, the problem is that i have 2 cats, both 10 years old, and i don't know if it's a good idea. They both are super good, affectionate, and usually aren't even capable to kill a cokroach. The biggest one actually gets scared and starts meowing.

I'd like some tips on introducing guinea pigs to cats if someone has experienced this before. What also concerns me is that my relationship with my cats gets harder, they love to enter my room and rest on my lap, desk or wherever they feel like to do it, and it's the same room where i would put the piggy cage, so it saddens me to think that they won't come in as usual, therefore won't rest on my lap and give me the same company we've been enjoying this last 10 years.

Thanks for reading

Hi Johann ,welcome to the forum. i have a 7 year old cat,she has grown up with the guinea pigs and rarley bothers them.i would ensure any cage /run has a secure lid.ensure supervision is at all times when you have your piggies out.guinea pigs are prey animals so maybe frightened at first.usually especially with older cats they do become accustomed to cats being around.

We got 2 baby piggies when we already had 3 cats ( various ages and temperaments ) and have never had any problems . They all happily sunbathe on the patio together and have the odd sniff of each other in passing.

Got two piggies with a cat at my Mum's house and we just made sure to 'introduce' them in a safe way so if they were in the pen we'd encourage her to come over and fuss her. Most of our problems seemed to come early on from animal jealousy where she wouldnt be too happy we were fussing the piggies and not her.
