About Covid-19! Help! Please!

I know that there is a lot of anxiety about at the moment but my honest opinion is that you need to let go of some of these worries and to focus on enjoying the time you have with your piggies
yeah, enjoying is what I want as a result, but I just cannot relax easily.

Sorry about being stressful all the time. I am just too worried and doubtful.

I suddenly realized that my throat felt so dry. I think it might be due to the weather or something else, but I am too close to his water bottle. Will it cause problem?
It won't cause a problem anyway, and the water bottle is sealed by 2 ball bearings. Water can get out, nothing can get in

I think you’re going to have to try and learn to relax. It’s a stressful time and if you’re an anxious person already then I think the pandemic will make it even worse.

You have had many replies along the same vein - your piggies will be fine. So far there’s no evidence that it can be transferred from human to piggies/pets. Do read the link that Lady Kelly posted earlier. And also listen to what people are saying. Your piggies will be fine. There’s no corona virus in the hay or on the cage or anywhere else. The hay is fine, you don’t need to do anything to the shelf, hay or the cage.

I’d like if you posted a photo Today at some point of your piggies. Maybe napping, eating or zooming around their cage. Take the focus away from worries and focus on positive things.

If I do not clean the hay shelf and cage edge, everything will be fine right? And this virus will die in two days?

I will try to relax. I am just too worried.

It’s okay to be worried but you either need to listen to what people are telling you, and not worry. Or find someone who can help you with it. I’m afraid we’re a piggy forum and can’t help professionally with any human illnesses.

Right, but I think this problem is new so that I worried this much.

Would you mind tell if you have this experience of not washing hands and still giving foods to guniea pigs?

I generally don’t wash my hands before feeding, unless I’ve been cooking. What I have a habit of doing is forgetting to wash my hands after stroking them though.

I have to say being so worried isn’t that new. You did post previously with some worries. We tried to assure you but it seemed you weren’t willing to take people’s advice on board. It’s not a bad thing to seek for professional help though. It’s for your benefit and to help you ‘cope’. Perhaps there’s something in the background that’s not obvious but is worrying you. And it’s displaying in your anxiety about your piggies etc. Just a thought. But I’m hugely under qualified to say anything.

What about going outside and back home and feed piggies?

I asked one of the vet. She said it was fine though. However, I am still not sure. I do not know what it is going on on me.

@Xiaoxiao … you've had excellent advice in this thread from LadyKelly and Siikibam. Please try and take their advice on board.

We're all anxious about Coronavirus - people wouldn't be normal if they weren't anxious . However, we're also aware that worrying about it too much will make things worse ... because it lowers our immune systems. We all have to find ways to cope with this.

Please also remember we are a forum and can offer support - but not professional advice .

If things are normal, is it meant he is healthy?

For your peace of mind, if you have enough hay, can you take out all of the hay and replace it with new stuff? I'm sure your piggies will be fine though.

But will the virus die, or will they continually grow on the hay or hay shelf?

Hi!

The virus is not designed to survive for long outside the body.

On rough surfaces like fabrics or hay it will survive at the best for a few hours; on any plastic or other smooth hard surfaces, it should have died within 72 hours. Give anything that you are handling within that time a quick wipe with disinfectant solution or soap in the areas you are likely to touch, or use gloves when opening and handling full packs.

A one-off cough is not evidence of Covid-19.

I only go out to do shopping and to work. I wash my hands when I get home but it’s not usually around the time I’m feeding them.

I think you should look for professional help. Nothing we say seems to reassure you. So I think this is beyond our ‘expertise’. Good luck.

As others have said, there's ABSOLUTELY NO RISK. It's reasonable to take precautions with cleaning and making sure those that have been realisticly exposed to the virus are properly decontaminated, but, for most people, including you, just wash your hands properly whenever you touch something that may be contaminated, which you should be doing whenever you handle any animal anyway. Again as others have stated, there's no risk of transmission to your guineapigs, or from them to you.
